Our two Y3 tennis teams had a lot of fun taking part in tennis matches and skills challenges at Boldon Tennis Club today! The A team amassed an incredible 19 out of 20 possible team points and qualified for the County Finals at Silksworth in June. It was wonderful to see the children enjoying the day by doing their best and supporting each other every step of the way!
Year 2’s trip to the OpenZone @ The Word
On Friday Year 2 enjoyed a trip to the OpenZone @ The Word. The children began by using the laptops to follow step by step instructions to build lego models. They then got to programme their models to rotate, make sounds and move with a motion sensor.
In the afternoon the children used Purplemash to create their own pairs games. They inputted images, drew their own card designs and were eager to add text to their games. To end the day they enjoyed trying out each other’s pair games. Their games can be played following the link below.

Year 5’s recital of ‘Jabberwocky’
Click the image above to see Year 5’s performance of ‘Jabberwocky’ by Lewis Carroll. We have been using the poem as a focus text to explore poetic conventions and inspire us to write our very own nonsense poems with portmanteau words. The children then formed groups to create and rehearse actions to perform the original poem as a class. We hope you enjoy it!
Year 2’s Vehicles
Today Year 2 created vehicles as part of their Design and Technology unit, wheels and axles. The children used their designs from the previous lesson to create their wonderful vehicles. They used a range of tools to cut wooden axles and used washers to secure each wheel. They explored a range of materials to help make their vehicles stronger and more stable. To finish the children used lots of crafts to finish and embellish their vehicles, using bottle tops for lids and seats! Here are some pictures of the children in action and also their final products.
Year 6 Samba
Year 6 have had lots of fun learning samba in PE this half term, they have shown lots of energy and enthusiasm and I think you’ll agree our final performances are excellent!

Reception Easter Liturgy
This morning the children performed a wonderful Easter Liturgy for their families. The children spoke so confidently and sang absolutely beautifully! It was so special to have parents and grandparents back in school, thank you to everyone that came along.

Year 5 trip to the National Glass Centre
Year 5 visited the National Glass Centre as part of our Science topic ‘Properties and changes of materials.’
First, the children took part in a changing states workshop in wit which they made predictions about experiments, carried them out then wrote their conclusions. I was very impressed at the scientific vocabulary they used and how keen they were to make sure it was a fair test.
Next, we watched a glass blowing demonstration. The children were really engaged with this session and it was lovely to hear them wondering what the final piece would be.
Finally, the children took part in a glass fusing workshop in which they drafted their designs then brought them to life with small glass tiles and frit. We put them in the kiln and will pick them up when they are ready. We can’t wait to see the final results!
Well done for another fabulous day, Year 5. You are superstars!
BCCET KS1 Maths Challenge
Four children from Year 2 were selected to take part in the BCCET KS1 Maths Challenge at The Briery in Sunderland. They spent the afternoon working their socks off with arithmetic, problem solving and reasoning activities. They played games such as tangrams, spot the shapes, target number and finished with a game of play your cards right. The four chosen children won the group challenge and are very excited to spend their gift cards.
What a wonderful afternoon we had!
