As part of our Science topic about the human body, the children have been learning about the circulatory system.
In today’s lesson, the children investigated the affects of exercise on our heart rate.
The children found their pulse and recorded their resting heart-rate. Then they did some vigorous dancing along to some Jump Start Johnny then recorded their heard rates again immediately after exercise and every minute for 5 minutes.
We had a great discussion about why their heart rates increased during exercise.
Year 6 Leavers’ Trip – Broomhouse Farm
Last week, the children enjoyed their final St Bede’s school trip to Broomhouse Farm Forest Adventure in Durham.
Despite the miserable, damp weather, the children had a great time….as you can tell!!
Year 6 Production ‘Pirates of the Curry Bean’
The Year 6 Children performed on stage for their Year 6 Leavers’ Production: Pirates of the Curry Bean
All of the children worked extremely hard to learn their lines, stage directions, songs and dance moves and they performed brilliantly. We have some exceptional talented actors and singers in Year 6!
The choir which included children from Years 3, 4 and 5 played a crucial part in the play also and sand beautifully.
No photographs were taken during the performance but I made sure I took a photo of the children on stage in their amazing costumes.
Year 6 Leavers’ Disco
On Monday evening, the children in Year 6 enjoyed their Leavers’ Disco.
George from Lil Devil DJ Entertainment certainly kept them entertained with the music and games and the PTFA treat the children to a McDonald’s.
The children (and staff) had a fantastic night!
I didn’t know so many of my class knew how to bust a move on the dance floor!!
Enjoy the photos!
Year 6 DT – Vegetable Curry
As part of our DT unit, we have looked at and evaluated the packaging of different curry sauces.
We looked through the common ingredient lists of curry sauces and identified ingredients that can cause allergies.
The children then voted which ingredients they wanted to include in their own vegetable curry.
They chose: onions, peppers, potatoes, cauliflower, garlic and tomatoes.
The children then peeled, chopped and diced the ingredients and mixed together with the dry spices and other ingredients and we slow cooked the curry.
In the afternoon, the children tasted their curry (along with some poppadoms) and evaluated their curry.
“10 out of 10” said a few children. “I wish there was some left so I could take it home!”
Safe to say, it was a huge success!
Year 6 OpenZone
The children visited the OpenZone at The Word to complete part of their ‘Programming and Sensing’ Unit.
The children enjoyed their morning out and their behaviour was impeccable.
DT Vegetable Curry
In DT, the children looked at a range of packaging and ingredients in a range of curries.
They had to choose the ingredients they would include in our class vegetable curry.
The children helped to peel, chop, dice, pour, cook, stir and serve the curry. All children had to evaluate the curry by its look, smell and taste….and it was a winning recipe.
Many children went back for seconds……and even thirds!!
And we think our waiters looked the part aswel!
we have to say….our waiters did a great job serving and giving out the dishes…..and they certainly looked the part!
