Y3 have shown a lot of maturity to quickly settle into the juniors this half term. They have produced lots of outstanding work in all subject areas; Miss Moffett and I are extremely proud of their efforts and consistently good attitude.
Halloween Fun in Year 2
We all had a spooktacular Halloween Day in Year 2 today! The children’s costumes were absolutely FANTASTIC, thank you for making such an effort to create a wonderful visual scarefest for all! We’ve had games, music, costume parades, spooky stories and dancing as well as some scary maths and phonics work.
Have a lovely half term break with the children, we are looking forward to having them back in November already.
West Boldon Lodge
Year 6 enjoyed an actioned packed day at West Boldon Lodge. We took part in a number of activities including a mini-beast hunt and pond dipping. We also made our own classification keys.
Anglo Saxon Monks
To launch our new history topic, Year 5 welcomed “That History Bloke” to St. Bede’s. We spent the morning looking at Anglo Saxon artifacts and learning all about the lives of Anglo Saxon monks.
We pledged ourselves to the life of a monk using the Anglo Saxon alphabet, then finished the morning playing morrells (an Anglo Saxon game).
The children had a brilliant morning!
Viking Visit September 2020
To launch our new history topic, Year 6 welcomed “That History Bloke” to St. Bede’s. We spent the morning looking at Viking artifacts and listening to the saga of Ragnar Lodbrok, a Viking King, and how he saved the fair maiden Thora from the Lingworm.
We handled replica Viking weapons, armour and shields, then finished the morning playing Tafl (a Viking game).
We learnt a lot in such a short space of time!
Mega-Beasts Visit Reception
Reception have had some very interesting visitors this week to start off their topic all about minibeasts. Guy from BugsnStuff brought in some Mega-Beasts for the children to look at, touch and hold including a snake, a tarantula, a cockroach, stick insects, a millipede, a frog and a lizard. They children were very brave indeed!
District Basketball Champions 2020!
Our fantastic Basketball players became South Tyneside Champions at the Newcastle Eagles Community Arena on Friday night! Cheered on by family, friends and teachers, the St. Bede’s team clinched the title in front of a capacity crowd.
St. Bede’s beat a talented Stanhope 4-2 in the semi-final in an exciting end to end game. The final was played at half time in the Eagles v London Lions game; which meant that there were thousands watching on. In a tight final, St. Bede’s defence was to prove unbreachable; while a slick attack was finished off by Daniel Rutter to clinch victory in a close encounter against a very good Biddick Hall side.
Captain Ellen Knowles delightfully lifted the Hoops4health trophy, and will now get the opportunity to lead her team back to the Arena to contest the Northumberland, Tyne and Wear Cup later in the year.
Our whole squad trained with so much enthusiasm for the finals and it was wonderful to see their collective determination and skill displayed on such a big stage. Everyone from the St. Bede’s community who travelled to Newcastle were visibly proud of the team’s attitude and wonderful achievement. As a coach, I could not have been prouder!
Rocket Mice
The Scientists in Science Club tonight learnt about forces. The children each created a cone shape which they shaped into a mouse. They then placed their mouse on top of a plastic bottle.
The children found that when they squashed their plastic bottles, the air inside was pushed out through the top and the force created sent the rocket mice flying into the air.
The children had different sized bottles and discovered that the harder they bashed their bottle, the stronger the force of escaping air and the higher the mouse rocketed.
Road Safety Workshop in Reception
Today the children took part in a very important workshop all about how to cross the road safely. We learned some actions to help us ‘Stop, look, listen, think!’ and practiced crossing a road using traffic lights.
Hoop Stars!
Fours teams of St. Bede’s Basketballers participated in the Hoops4Health tournament at Temple Park. All of our sides enjoyed the day, while two met in the semi-finals. One of our sides then went on to beat East Boldon in an exciting Play-Off Final. They will now play in the District Grand Final (Friday 7th February) at the Newcastle Eagles Community Arena.
We were all extremely proud of all the children who trained enthusiastically for the event, while it was great to see lots of brilliant parental support.
