Reception have had a brilliant day raising money for Red Nose Day. They got the chance to come to school wearing something red and to buy a red nose and a delicious cake! We talked about how all of the money raised would go to children and families who aren’t as fortunate as we are. Well done Reception!

Special Visitors in Reception
Reception had some very exciting visitors this morning! Mr and Mrs Foord very kindly brought their 8 chicks into school; the children absolutely loved holding and stroking them. The visit from the chicks was extra special for the children as we are learning all about Easter and signs of new life in Spring.

Y1 Technology Tom Visit
Year 1 have enjoyed a visit from Technology Tom this week, to support with our Science and Design Technology topics of ‘Materials’ and ‘Structures’. The children looked at the different properties of materials and how each one has its own unique benefits.
We were then shown just how strong paper can be when it is rolled into a cylinder. The children created some tall structures and two children were even brave enough to stand on one. Mr Henderson then has a try, unfortunately though he was too heavy.
In the afternoon the children worked in groups of three to create their own structure, using the information they had gained in the morning. They work brilliantly in their teams and created houses, castles, van, bridges and much more. Some structures even had working features. Here are a few photos from the day.
Reception Build a Wormery
As part of our ‘Minibeast’ topic we have been learning all about worms! Mrs Tutty very kindly provided lots of worms and compost so that we could build our very own wormery. The children helped to create layers of compost and sand and then picked up the worms and placed them very gently into the wormery.
Year 4 OpenZone

They enjoyed time on the laptops in the morning using Scratch programme to create shapes and in the afternoon, they used Lego and the I ‘pads to build a robot and programme the instructions to make the robot move.

Year 5’s Battle Cry Speeches
During our work on Beowulf, Year 5 wrote some persuasive speeches to try and encourage their fellow villagers to follow them into battle. The children really enjoyed using the green screen to bring their speeches to life. They all did extremely well and we all enjoyed watching them back on the big screen together. Here are some examples of the pupils’ performances.
