Year 1 have been showing off their culinary skills by concocting a ‘Very Berry’ Smoothie. The children eagerly measured and cut berries, adding a splash of yogurt and milk. These budding chefs, not only learnt about healthy eating, but also developed motor skills and teamwork.

Bins Update
We have been asked to share the following message from South Tyneside Council.
Members of the GMB and Unite unions are involved in a fourth wave of industrial action this week (23-26 January) and there are no bin collections.
However, from next week when crews return to work, residents are being advised to present their grey household bin ONLY every day from Tuesday to Friday (30 January to 2 February).
On non-strike weeks, waste crew operatives are continuing to take action that goes beyond short of strike (“working to rule” and “go slows”). Crews are bringing work back daily, and last week an entire day was missed.
Skips are to be made available from tomorrow, over the next week, for people to drop off any excess bagged household waste: Temporary Waste Drop-off Points Amid Bin Strike – South Tyneside Council

Christmas in Year 1
Year 1 have had lots of fun this December! Here are a few photos of what we have been up to.
Y3 Runners Walking in the Footsteps of Sir Mo Farah
The Y3 Cross Country champions had an exciting morning doing the ‘Mobot’ and walking in the footprints of Sir Mo Farah, which have been installed at South Shields interchange. The children were invited by Nexus to promote the legendary Olympian and 6 times Great North Run champion’s footprints after their recent Cross Country success.
In true festive spirit the children were given a selection box for their cheery smiles; which you will be able to see on Tyne Tees News and the local press in the coming days.
Infant Nativity 2023
Today, the children from Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 showcased their Nativity play titled ‘Whoops-a-Daisy Angel.’ The children exhibited excellence as they sang, narrated and portrayed the story of The Nativity.
Well done Infants, we are all very proud of you!
Y1 Christingles
Year 1 have been learning about Christingles, a symbolic representation of Christ’s light. The children carefully followed the instructions on how to make them and worked in teams to create them.
With oranges representing the world, red ribbons symbolising the blood of Christ, sweets and dried fruits signifying God’s creations, and a candle as the light of Christ, the children gained a deeper understanding of the religious meaning behind the Christingle tradition.
We then went into the hall and had a small liturgy where we lit the candles on the Christingles and said some special prayers.
