My Voice Matters – Childrens Mental Health Week 2024

9th February 2024 By katiedixon

This week in house meetings the children thought carefully about what matters most to them. In the middle of the spiral the children wrote or drew pictures of what matters to them day to day. As they moved further out of the spiral they thought about what matters to them in the wider world. It was lovely to hear the children sharing their different views and ideas and to know that there voices really do matter.

School Safety Map – School Council Pupil Voice

7th February 2024 By katiedixon

The school council have worked extremely hard this week completing a school safety map activity. The children followed a map of the school and thought about how safe they felt in each area. They coloured an area green if they always felt safe, orange if they sometimes felt safe and red if they did not feel safe. We are looking forward to meeting up again after half term to discuss our findings and to work together to make our school the safest it can be.

Commissioning of the Mini Vinnies

5th February 2024 By carolinekennedy

In the Autumn term, we asked for children to volunteer to become Mini Vinnies.  We were astounded by the huge number of applications received from our KS2 children.  It was so difficult to choose between the thoughtful applications of those children wanting to make a difference in their community, so, with over 40 applications, we decided to run 2 Mini Vinnies’ groups.  Here they are being commissioned today.

Mrs Brown visits Year 4

3rd February 2024 By carolinekennedy

As part of our Local Church topic in RE, we were fortunate to welcome Mrs Brown into school to talk about the role the laity plays in Church.  It was very interesting – the children learned a lot about how we are all called to serve God in our own way, and the commitment and responsibility involved in people volunteering.

Storytelling Week

2nd February 2024 By lusher

This week is National Storytelling Week.

This annual event aims to be a joyful celebration of the power of sharing stories. The children marked the occasion in their house meetings where they created their own stories together using picture cards for inspiration. They worked so well together and conjured some very imaginative stories! Pupils then shared some picture books together in their family groups.

Y3/4 Gymnastics Success!

31st January 2024 By bmcvittie

Our new Y3/4 Gymnastics teams enjoyed an excellent day in their first gymnastics competition. Our individual gymnasts were outstanding as they won all three medals on offer collecting gold, silver and bronze! Meanwhile our A team collected team bronze, while our B team came a superb fourth!

All of our gymnasts had a great day exploring a variety of activities at the brilliant Urban factory, before all performing their routines fantastically in front of the expert judges.

It was wonderful to see the team spirit between our 3 squads as they really supported each other.

Thank you to our brilliant parent helpers who really encouraged our children throughout the event! Thank you also to the parents who practised the routine with their children at home – they all did us so proud today!

Bins Update

26th January 2024 By kmcvittie

We have been asked to share the following message from South Tyneside Council.

Members of the GMB and Unite unions are involved in a fourth wave of industrial action this week (23-26 January) and there are no bin collections.

However, from next week when crews return to work, residents are being advised to present their grey household bin ONLY every day from Tuesday to Friday (30 January to 2 February).

On non-strike weeks, waste crew operatives are continuing to take action that goes beyond short of strike (“working to rule” and “go slows”). Crews are bringing work back daily, and last week an entire day was missed.

Skips are to be made available from tomorrow, over the next week, for people to drop off any excess bagged household waste: Temporary Waste Drop-off Points Amid Bin Strike – South Tyneside Council

Our Y3 Multi-Skills teams enjoyed double success at Temple Park today; where our A Team won the competition overall and our B team came a brilliant third! Both our teams had a great time trying a wide variety of activities as they aimed to put in personal best performances.

It was great to watch our children enjoying the event with their friends, while still looking to do their best throughout.

Thank you to our brilliant parent helpers who really supported and encouraged our children during the event! Finally congratulations to all of Y3 – I was really proud of you all today!
