Year 4 had a fantastic day on World Book Day – they dressed up as characters from their favourite books and enjoyed some fun WBD activities in class. The teachers also dressed up as the dalmatian puppies from ‘The Hundred and One Dalmatians’ book by Dodie Smith with Mrs Devine as the infamous Cruella De Vil!

Year 3’s Yummy Fruit Crumble
Year 3 spent this morning baking some delicious fruit crumbles! The children learned and practiced many skills such as cutting, peeling, sieving, rubbing and measuring. They worked really hard and should be very proud of their achievements, they are taking them home to share with their families tonight, we hope you enjoy them!
Reception visit the Discovery Museum
Reception have been on a very exciting trip to the Discovery Museum as part of our ‘Toys Through Time’ topic. The children took part in a workshop where they had the opportunity to handle and play with a range of old and new toys. They were then asked to sort them into groups including; old and new, what material they were made from and whether they were dull or colourful. After the workshop the children enjoyed their packed lunches (something they had been talking about for days at school!) On the afternoon the children completed a toy trail around the museum and had great fun in the science exhibition. The children were exceptionally well behaved and represented our school so beautifully.
Year 2 Programming @ The OpenZone
Year 2 have enjoyed a day of programming at The OpenZone @ The Word. The children experimented with some exciting codes on a variety of programmes including WeDo2 and ScratchJnr. The children build a range of lego models and programmed them to move and detect motion. They also created their own characters and backgrounds on ScratchJnr and began to programme their own stories using speech. All of the children worked so hard and had a brilliant day. Thanks again to our wonderful parent helpers!
World Book Day
This week, we celebrated World Book Day in school. We talked about our love of reading in an assembly with Mrs Devine (or Mrs De Vil in this instance!) and the benefits of sharing a story. Pupils then took part in some World Book Day activities in class.
Pupils were invited to come into school dressed as one of their favourite book characters. Everybody looked wonderful!
Reception World Book Day
Yesterday Reception celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite book characters. We had characters from Winnie the Witch, The Little Mermaid, The Highway Rat and Matilda to name but a few! It was lovely to see the children sharing their favourite books with each other.
Y1 World Book Day
Year 1 looked amazing in their costumes for World Book Day. The children enjoyed a drawing lesson from Axel Scheffler and listened Julia Donaldson’s new book, The Baddies, read by the author on the computer. The children then showed off their writing and illustrating skills as they created their own pop up books.
BCCET KS1 Maths Challenge
Four students from Year 2 were selected to take part in the BCCET KS1 Maths Challenge at Our Lady of The Rosary in Sunderland. They spent the afternoon working their socks off with arithmetic, problem solving and reasoning activities. They worked so hard that they won the group challenge and came 2nd overall out of 22 schools. What a fantastic achievement!
Year 5 WWT Washington Trip
Year 5 visited Washington Wetland Centre as part of their Science work on life cycles. We took part in pond dipping and found lots of minibeasts to study. We did a really good job of using the classification cards to try and identify the creatures we found. We discussed the importance of the environment being suitable for the wildlife and how conditions change throughout the year.
We then took part in a workshop and handled some specimens. We talked about the adaptations some animals have and why they might be useful in the wild. We discovered how the life cycles of different animals and plants differ before heading off to some educational talks. The playful otters were firm favourites!
The weather was in our favour so we had great fun exploring nature, bird spotting, and even squeezed in a quick turn in the park for our whole-class reward. A lovely day was had by all!
