Y3 Outdoor Adventurers!

21st May 2024 By bmcvittie

Y3 today enjoyed orienteering around South Marine Park by using their mapwork skills.  They navigated around the park in teams to find letters and numbers which helped them to solve a variety of puzzles. During the course, they also embarked on several problem solving activities, where they had to use communication and teamwork skills. The children were all fantastic and really embraced the challenges in a wonderful event!

Y3 Tennis Winners!

8th May 2024 By bmcvittie

Well done to our two Y3 tennis teams who enjoyed a great morning at Boldon Tennis Club today. Both of our teams played superbly; while our A Team were unstoppable as they were overall group winners!

The children have really enjoyed playing tennis together in recent months, and have all  excelled in a variety of skills challenges and singles matches.

I am super proud of all our tennis players and thank you to our brilliant parent helpers at Boldon who gave the children wonderful support.

8th May 2024 By carolinekennedy

Year 4 learnt how to sing and sign ‘The Lord’s Prayer (It’s Yours)’ using British sign language (BSL) when we were at the Youth Village at the end of April.

Here they are performing it at the Youth Village.

Year 5 – Hoops 4 Health

7th May 2024 By lusher

The children in Year 5 enjoyed an amazing afternoon with some Newcastle Eagles players.

The Hoops 4 Health roadshow concentrated on health messages such as mental and social well-being, how to stay fit and look after the heart and lungs, stay hydrated with tap water and eating a balanced diet. The children also had the opportunity to take part in some basketball activities with the Eagles players!

The children were fantastic at answering the players’ questions and taking part in the activities.

Well done everyone!

Year 5 DT – Star Bakers!

7th May 2024 By lusher

Year 5 showed off their baking skill in DT recently. We had a lovely (and rather messy) morning mixing batches of bread dough then adding our chosen additional ingredients. After the dough had risen, we shaped our bread into rolls following the designs we’d chosen to use. Finally, we tasted and evaluated our bread rolls once they had been baked.

Good job, Year 5!

Y4 at the Youth Village

29th April 2024 By lwelsh

We arrived at the Youth Village and were greeted by beautiful sunshine! The children have settled in really well and have been well fed.  They have completed a couple of activities so far and have had fun playing out.

Here they are having fun:

The children had a good night sleep but woke up to hailstones this morning! We’ve had all weathers today – hail, rain and beautiful sunshine!

The boys helped with washing up the breakfast dishes then we played a few games.

This morning, the children completed a carousel of activities including making gratitude bracelets for someone they’re thankful to, a team building activity, getting creative with art and learning to sign the Our Father.

After lunch, we walked to the woods to explore and enjoyed being out in nature.

We squeezed every last drop out of the day with more fun and games around the lodges. They must be tired now??!!

Another super day on Friday – a few more photos to share:

Y3 Botanists Dissecting Flowers!

24th April 2024 By bmcvittie

Our young botanists in Y3 have been eagerly dissecting the different parts of a flower. The children have been investigating the functions of the petals, stamen, carpel and sepals. They discovered that tulips, roses and alstroemerias had more petals than sepals. As we move through Spring, I’m sure they’ll be identifying all of beautiful flowers growing in our local area!

Year 4 DT – Making pasta sauce

23rd April 2024 By carolinekennedy

Year 4 had a fantastic morning today when they worked in house groups to make their own pasta sauce recipe that contained hidden vegetables.

The childen worked very well in their teams to prepare the veg and season their sauce before tasting their wonderful creations.

The sauces were all very different but equally delicious!  The children ranked their sauces in order of preference and were very honest and constructive in evaluating each other’s recipes.  Many of the children felt that the sauce made by Teresa house was the tastiest with a close second in Bernadette.

I loved the way the children were so complimentary towards each other – many of them even wrote down Teresa house’s  recipe to try at home!
