This week, we’ve been celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week. Our infant classes had an assembly from Miss Dixon and our junior classes had an extra special visitor. Lisa, from BlueJay Wellness, spoke to the junior classes about how to connect with others and why our connections help our own and other people’s mental health and well-being.
In our house meetings, we created jigsaw pieces that celebrate how we all connect as a school community. These will soon be on display for all our children to see.

Children’s Mental Health Week 2023
Children’s Mental Health Week 2023 will take place from 6-12 February 2023. This year’s theme is Let’s Connect.
Let’s Connect is about making meaningful connections. People thrive in communities, and this connection is vital for our wellbeing. When we have healthy connections – to family, friends and others – this can support our mental health and our sense of wellbeing.
During the week, we’ll have a special assembly from Bluejay wellness and we will be having a particular focus on connecting with each other during house meetings that week.

Platinum Sport & PE Award for St. Bede’s!
We are delighted to announce that we have retained our School Games Platinum Mark status. Uniquely, we are still the only school in South Tyneside to hold this prestigious PE and Sport National award. The School Games Committee has awarded St. Bede’s the accolade for “consistently high commitment to school sport and development of PE”.
Our school provides children with a wide range of sports provision in both curriculum time and after school. This includes taking part in large numbers at inter-school competitions, by entering multiple teams so children of all abilities can be involved.
Meanwhile, this term we look forward to children in the Juniors, Infants and Early Years attending local sport festivals. We are determined to keep striving to improve opportunities for everyone.
Thank you to everyone who has supported PE and school sport at St. Bede’s. Sport has the ability to enhance pupil’s discipline, character, communication, resilience and team work skills, which provide the tools to success in all subject areas and future life.
Everyone at St. Bede’s should be proud of this award, as everyone has played their part. Lunch time supervisors keenly encourage activity, while parents keep their children moving outside of school and get them involved in local community clubs. But most importantly, this award is recognition for our fantastic children who seek to lead healthy lives and enthusiastically get involved in school sport.
