The children have had a fabulous day raising money for Children in Need. We wore Pudsey ears to school and took part in the Annual Duck Race. I’m thrilled to say that we have raised a whopping £205.00 so far! Well done to all of the children – your kind donations will make a huge difference to children’s lives around the UK.
Year 2’s trip to The Rising Sun Country Park
The Year 2 children had a fantastic time on their trip today to The Rising Sun Country Park.
We began the day looking at different habitats including pond and woodland habitats. The children had the opportunity to take part in a pond dipping activity where they caught and identified lots of different living things. The children caught fish, diving beetles, nymphs, pond snails, water boatman and plenty of pond weed! We then took part in a natural art workshop where the children created pond creatures using only natural materials.
After lunch the children completed a mini beast hunt and identified and classified the mini beasts based on their number of legs. The children ended the day by creating mini beast hotels, some of which included hot tubs and cinemas. Those bugs were really living the life!
It was a pleasure to take the children out on their first school trip and their behaviour was perfect! Thank you again to all adults who came along to support us on the trip, it was very much appreciated.

Y2 Sports Day & Picnic
Year 2 had a lovely day today, with our class Sports Day in the morning and a picnic in the afternoon.
All of the children tried their hardest in each of their races and performed well, enjoying a well deserved treat this afternoon. They should all sleep well tonight!
Chance2Shine Cricket Day
It was wonderful to see children in Years 1-6 enjoying playing cricket together today. Coaches from Durham CCC and South Shields CC led the event, in which it was great to see plenty of smiles as children batted, bowled and practised their catching.
Christmas Tree Making Fun
Well on our final morning in school before Christmas, Year 2 have been making Christmas trees and decorating them using the most glittery jewels and sparkles imaginable!
Have a wonderful break with your children and we will see you in 2021!
Mini-beast Puppets
Year 2 have had an exciting few weeks in Design and Technology designing, planning, creating and evaluating their very own puppets! Our science topic of Living Things and Their Habitats helped children choose the theme of the puppets as mini-beasts.
Our unit has allowed children to research different types of puppets and look at the origins of some of the more common puppets we see today. Children loved the history behind famous puppets such as Punch and Judy and The Muppets!
They did a great job planning the design they wanted to make and thinking about the materials they would like to use (some rather imaginative I must say!) 🙂
Before we were able to create our masterpieces though we had to actually MAKE the puppet, by sewing together fabric using a running stitch. I’m sure you’ll agree they all did a fantastic job as lots of them had never even threaded a needle before so I was very impressed 🙂
Enjoy looking through our photos, the puppets will be winging their way home to you very soon!
Year 2 Christmas Party Fun!!
Virtual Christmas Concert 2020!
Dear Parents,
We hope you enjoy St. Bede’s School’s virtual Christmas Concert 2020! Many thanks to Mr. Hogan (Y5 and Y2 parent) for giving his time and expertise to record and produce these videos for our families.
Our Nature Hunt
We were all very sad to have had our trip cancelled at such short notice, however the children have enjoyed exploring nature in the grounds of our school today just as much! Our new science topic of Living things and Their Habitats got off to a flying start this afternoon when the children headed out, armed with clipboards and pencils to log in the form of a tally chart some of the creatures they found. We had so much fun in the mud and trees finding worms, snails, a woodlouse and even (apparently…) a golden ant! Children were all able to record their findings and generate lots of questions and answers when we got back to class. Here are some photos of our mini adventure
Symmetry!
The children have been enjoying our Maths this week learning all about the properties of different 2D shapes, drawing their own shapes and finding lines of symmetry. They’ve been enjoying looking for the many 2D shapes they can see in the classroom and out on the yard too! Today the children have done a fantastic job of using folding techniques, mirrors and measuring to find lines of symmetry in lots of different shapes. Well done Year 2.
