The infant children had a very spooktacular night at the Monster Ball on Tuesday! Don’t they look scary?!
SEND/Family Support Coffee Afternoon
We would love you to join us for our first SEND/Family Support Coffee afternoon on Monday 28th November 2.15-3.15pm. Mrs Mackley and Mrs Welsh will be available to speak to and there will be a small presentation from Marie Holmes (Educational Mental Health Practitioner) on the Healthy Minds Service.
The PTA will be serving refreshments and selling pre-loved uniform.
Year 1’s Autumn Walk
Year 1 went on a walk to the Marine Park this afternoon, as part of their Science seasonal change topic. As the children walked to and around the park, they notices some of the berries and seeds that were on the trees and bushes. They also commented upon the different autumnal colours on the leaves.
The children then collected leaves and other natural items to make leaf people and animals, similar to the ones we had read about in the story ‘Leaf Man’ at school.
As a treat, we finished the walk with a little play in the play park, for all of their hard work this half term.
PTA News
Our PTA will be holding a Monster Ball on Tuesday 1st November (please see letter below). In preparation for this, we would welcome any donations of fancy dress costumes you may have at home. We would like to recycle these and will be selling them for £1 at our Autumn coffee afternoon on Thursday 20th October from 2pm in the school hall.
We hope to see you there!
World Mental Health Day
World Mental Health Day is Monday 10th October. The children will be having an assembly on The 5 Ways To Wellbeing. These are simple steps we all can take to improve our Mental Health and Well-being.
Worry Monster
We are currently in the process of setting up access to a ‘worry monster’ in each classroom. This is a place where they can write their name on a post-it note with any worry they may have and “feed” it to the worry monster. This can happen throughout the day and teaching staff regularly check the worry monsters, find a quiet place to talk to the child and address any worries that they might have. This is an opportunity for the children to share any worries and for us to try and help and offer support.
While the children are not at school, we are aware that they may still have worries or questions that they might want to share or ask. We want to be able to continue to offer this type of support as much as we can while we are currently not in school. So, we have now set up a dedicated email address. This is for the children to use. They can email us with any worries or questions they may have. Mrs Welsh, Mrs Devine and Mrs Mackley will all have access to the email service, so we will hopefully be able to address any worries.
The email address is ineedtotalk@st-bedes.s-tyneside.sch.uk
Year 1 at Hall Hill Farm
Year 1 have had a fun filled day at Hall Hill Farm. We started with a look at the animals around the farm. The children then got the chance to feed some of the sheep and lambs.
We also enjoyed a very bump tractor ride and handled some of the smaller animals such a chicks, guinea pigs and rabbits.
Y1 Orienteering
Y1 used their map reading skills to solve some orienteering challenges at South Marine Park. The children worked as teams to find clues and materials. Once they had completed the course they then used the materials collected to build a home for their team’s bear.
Y1 Technology Tom Visit
Year 1 have enjoyed a visit from Technology Tom this week, to support with our Science and Design Technology topics of ‘Materials’ and ‘Structures’. The children looked at the different properties of materials and how each one has its own unique benefits.
We were then shown just how strong paper can be when it is rolled into a cylinder. The children created some tall structures and two children were even brave enough to stand on one. Mr Henderson then has a try, unfortunately though he was too heavy.
In the afternoon the children worked in groups of three to create their own structure, using the information they had gained in the morning. They work brilliantly in their teams and created houses, castles, van, bridges and much more. Some structures even had working features. Here are a few photos from the day.
Attendance Stars!
Year 1 enjoyed a treat this week for best overall attendance in Autumn Term. They watched a movie, had popcorn and chocolate. Well done Year 1!
