Last week, Year 2 took part in a mini tennis festival where they learned the basic skills of tennis. They practised serving and basic ball skills. They all worked very hard and were beautifully behaved. We have some great tennis players in the making! Thank you to our wonderful parent helpers!
Northumberland, Tyne & Wear Basketball Champions League Success!
On Friday evening, our basketballers represented South Tyneside in the Champion of Champions Regional Finals at the Vertu Motor Arena in Newcastle. Â Despite losing our first game, our players showed a lot of character to respond and claim amazing team silver medals!
Victories over New Deleval ( Northumberland), Glynwood (Gateshead) and Preston Grange (North Tyneside) set up a Champion of Champions final against Gosforth Junior Academy (Newcastle) one of the largest primaries in the north east.
Our children were not overawed by playing in front of 3500 spectators or taking on the talented Gosforth school; who had previously won all their games by big margins. Instead we had lots of good possession and took the game to them for the majority of the match creating several chances. However, it wasn’t to be as the Gosforth star player hit 2 outstanding shots from difficult positions to help his school claim the title.
One hundred and seventy two teams were involved in the Hoops4health north east tournament this year, so to become District Champions, then reach the Champion of Champions Grand Final was an incredible achievement.
I was bursting with pride for our players, especially for the skill and personality they showed in the Grand final against Gosforth. The whole squad have developed as both players and people throughout the basketball season.
Meanwhile, it was truly uplifting to see the brilliant support from our St. Bede’s community who travelled to Newcastle to support our children on their exciting sporting journey!
South Tyneside Team Cross Country Champions 2023!
Eight teams from St. Bede’s consisting of 41 children became South Tyneside Team Cross Country Champions today! It was wonderful to have so many boys and girls representing our school in a single event. The children have shown incredible dedication to train for the competition and everyone strived for personal best performances on the day.
I was so proud of how everyone supported each other and the amazing parental support at Temple Park. We are still the only small school to have won the event, so it shows the power of teamship where everyone supports each other and is happy to celebrate each other’s successes along the way!
Y1/2 Summer Sport & Well Being Club!
Well done to our Y1 & Y2 who were all brilliant in our summer sport & well being club, despite the wet weather. Wherever possible, we got outside to enjoy a wide variety of games, and whenever we were forced back inside the children were equally positive enjoying indoor activities. I’m sure the club will help many of our children in their transition to the juniors, while it was wonderful fun teaching our talented children. I hope you all have a great summer with your families and enjoy continuing to get active!
Y3/4 Sport & Well Being Club
Well done to our lower juniors who happily launched themselves in to a variety of exciting activities this week. They were all amazing and it was wonderful to see them have a great time!
Sports Day 2023!
Our amazing children put on a magnificent sports day for us all today! Â Everyone tried their best in their events with a smile; while it was wonderful to see the children supporting their friends throughout our festival of sport. Thank you to our school community who made the event so special by turning up in large numbers on our rearranged date and supporting all the children with great enthuiasm. Sport really does have the power bring us together in a happy, positive ways. Enjoy the summer break with your families and I hope you all enjoy staying active together.
Y3 Outdoor Adventurers!
Y3 enjoyed orienteering using their mapwork skills around South Marine Park today. They navigated around the park in teams to find letters and numbers which helped them to solve a variety of puzzles. During the course, they also embarked on six problem solving activities, where they had to use communication and teamwork skills. The children were fantastic and really embraced the challenges in a wonderful festival!
Double Tennis Success!
Our Y3 tennis players enjoyed double success at Boldon Tennis Club; where our A Team won the competition and our B team came a brilliant second! Both of our teams really shone under the bright sunshine today, with outstanding performances in both the singles matches and tennis skills challenges!
It was great to watch our children enjoying the event with their friends, while still playing skilful, determined tennis. I know how much the children have enjoyed playing tennis together this summer, so it was extra special to see both teams achieve great success at the competition.
Thank you to our brilliant parent supporters at Boldon who gave the children wonderful support, which meant they never wilted in the beautiful sunshine.
Girls Cricket Finals at Whitburn CC
It was wonderful to take part in our first cricket tournament since 2019 today, at the beautiful Whitburn Cricket Club. I’ve been delighted with the interest in Cricket over the last half term, where we have managed to develop three squads of girls from Year 3 to Year 6.
Today all of our girls had a great day and performed superbly in their first District cricket competition. The St. Bede’s A team won their first five games to storm into the semi-finals! They eventually lost a close, chaotic semi-final, but many of our young squad will get the opportunity to play again in future seasons, where it will be very exciting to see their progress.
Thank you to the girls for your dedication in training over the summer and for the brilliant parental support at Whitburn CC.
Y3/4 District Athletics Champions 2023!
Thirty Y3/4 St. Bede’s athletes had a wonderful time competing in the District Athletics Championships at Monkton Stadium. During the presentation, it was amazing to discover that not only had our B team finished 5th, but our A team were crowned District Champions! They will now go on to represent South Tyneside in the County Finals on Tuesday 20th June.
I was so proud to see our children achieve personal best performances; while they keenly supported each other throughout the day. It was also great to see so much support for St. Bede’s from our school community inside the stadium, which really helped inspire our teams.
It has been a great pleasure training our squad of 30 players this year, as their attitude in training has been brilliant. Meanwhile, their behaviour at the tournament was absolutely exemplary. Congratulations to our whole squad on a great day’s athletics, and good luck to our A team in the County Finals!
