Year 6 Get Creative at Open Zone!

29th January 2026 By lusher

This week, Year 6 enjoyed an exciting trip to Open Zone at The Word in South Shields, where they spent the morning becoming digital designers.

During their workshop, pupils used Tinkercad, a 3D design platform that introduces young learners to CAD (Computer‑Aided Design) in a fun, accessible way. The task was to design their very own ‘ice palace.’

The session involved:

  • Learning the basics of 3D modelling, including how to move, rotate and resize shapes
  • Experimenting with geometric forms to create towers, domes, archways and frosty features
  • Combining shapes to build more complex structures, thinking carefully about scale, balance and symmetry
  • Using creativity and problem‑solving skills to produce a magical, imaginative palace design

The children were highly motivated, especially after Mrs C announced that the top three designs will be 3D printed! This has caused great excitement in class, and pupils can’t wait to see which creations come to life as real 3D models.

After their digital design session, Year 6 visited the library within The Word to return their reading books and choose new titles to loan.

Year 6 RAP Event at South Shields Fire Station

7th October 2025 By vickidavis

Today, the children attended the RAP event at South Shields Fire Station.

They discovered that RAP stands for ‘Reducing Accidents at Play’ and as they are becoming older, they will be wanting to go out with their friends more and become more confident in social situations and become more independent.

The RAP event, discusses ways in which they should stay safe in a range of scenarios from water safety, road safety and safety around the metro and train lines. They also discussed what antisocial behaviour was and what that looks like in their local areas.

The children attended 6 different workshops hosted by Nexus, Northumbria Police, RNLI Lifeguards, , South Tyneside Council Road Safety, Northern Power Grid and the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service.

The children were engaged throughout the morning and asked (and answered) some very important questions.

St Bede’s Art Gallery

8th September 2025 By Samantha McHugh

🎨 Our First St Bede’s Art Gallery!

We’re delighted to invite you to explore our very first St Bede’s Art Gallery, a celebration of creativity, reflection, and faith. Over the past academic year, children from Nursery to Year 5 have taken part in the Spirited Arts competition, exploring the theme “All God’s Creatures.”

Each piece of artwork has been thoughtfully linked to words from Scripture, helping our pupils reflect on the beauty and meaning of God’s creation. From colourful collages to intricate sculptures, the children have poured their hearts into expressing how animals and nature connect to faith, care, and wonder.

🖼️ The gallery is on display for you to enjoy from Monday to Wednesday this week on your way to and from the curriculum meetings. We hope it brings you joy, inspiration, and pride in the incredible work your children have created.

This is our first time hosting an art gallery, and we hope to make it a yearly tradition—not only to showcase our children’s talents, but also to help raise funds for the school.

📖 Before you leave, please take a moment to share your feedback or ideas in the book provided at the door. Your thoughts will help us grow and make future exhibitions even more special.

Thank you for your continued support.

8th February 2025 By lusher

Storytelling Week

During Storytelling Week, our pupils teamed up across different classes for some shared reading. Children of different ages took turns exploring exciting tales together. It was a wonderful way to spend time together and celebrate the joy of books. What lovely reading we heard, too! 📚✨
