We would like to invite the children to wear a pair of odd socks on Monday 13th November to mark the start of ‘Anti-Bullying Week 2023’. Odd Socks Day is a great opportunity to express ourselves and celebrate our individuality and what makes us all unique!

We had an action packed few days on this year’s residential. The children took part in every activity with a smile on their face (even the Piranha Pool!) and great determination. They were well-mannered and a pleasure to spend time with. We hope they enjoyed the trip as much as we did!

Yesterday the children in years 1-6 took part in an exciting, practical first-aid workshop. Within the workshop the children learned vital life-saving skills such as what to do if they came across somebody unconcious, how then to put them into the recovery position and how to call for help. The children were so engaged and thoroughly enjoyed learning such important life-long skills.

Key Stage 2 classes recently took part in a virtual visit from award-winning author, Hannah Gold.
During the virtual visit, Hannah spoke about her bestselling books The Last Bear and The Lost Whale. She also introduced the children to her highly anticipated third book, Finding Bear. Hannah spoke about her exciting work and the background to her latest book, as well as answering pupils’ questions in a Q&A session.
Some of the children enjoyed listening to Hannah so much that they were motivated to write their own animal stories inspired by Finding Bear.

This week the children had a very exciting visitor called Steve who is our local Community Police Officer. Steve spoke to the children about his important job and what he does to look after us. The children asked some great questions and some even decided that they would like to be Police Officers when they grow up!

Year 1 enjoyed an autumnal day at Gibside, as part of their science topic, ‘Seasonal Change’. They searched for indications of the arrival of autumn and collected leaves, acorns, and conkers to bring back to the classroom. Using the natural materials surrounding them, they engaged in creating autumn crowns, picture frames, and stick creatures.
After lunch we had a lovely walk through the walled garden where we saw pumpkins and apples growing.
Despite the slight chill in the air, Year 1 made the most of their experience and were rewarded with a visit to the play area to celebrate their exceptional efforts throughout the term.
Thank you to all of the parent helpers for making this trip possible.
