As part of Children’s Mental Health Week (7th-13th February), Year 5 designed their own ‘support balloons’ by considering the people in their lives that help them to grow. Here are a few examples of the children’s work. We discussed the importance of recognising the people we can turn to when we need ‘lifting up.’
Safer Internet Day in Reception
As part of ‘Safer Internet Day’ the children have been learning about how to use the Internet safely in a fun way with Buddy the Dog’s Internet Safety Story. The story specifically focuses on the safe use of tablets and smartphones. In the story, Ben is given a new tablet and throughout he asks questions to Buddy the dog about how to use his tablet safely. Asking these questions to your children will help to initiate discussions about key online safety issues, such as talking to strangers online. The story also contains a catchy song to help to reinforce key Internet safety messages!
St Bede’s Annual Scholastic Book Fair (Feb 7th – 11th)

Children are invited to attend the Book Fair with their classmates and view the books available. There are over 200 books to choose from. Every book you buy will also help to earn free books for our school!
Pupils will be given a World Book Day token which can be used to get £1 off any purchases at the Book Fair.

Thank you.
Year 2 Norman Cornish Art Workshop
Year 2 have had the wonderful opportunity to take part in the Remaking Beamish Art project. As part of the project, we had Robert from Beamish Museum visit us to teach us all about Norman Cornish and the mining history. The children explored some of Norman’s artwork alongside having a go at sketching and shading. They then had the opportunity to handle and explore some historical objects from the museum relating to the homes and mines found in Cornish’s artwork. We will be visiting Beamish Museum later in the Spring to celebrate the opening of Norman’s replica home on Front Street Terrace. We cannot wait!

Chadwick Celebration Awards
Dear Pupil (and parents/carers)
We are delighted to today open the nominations for the first “Chadwick Celebration Awards”.
These awards are to celebrate the staff who work for Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust and your school. One of the awards is the very special ‘Inspirational Staff Awards’ and we would like pupils from across all of our schools to make a nomination in this category.
We would like you to think about all the staff at your school and if there is someone that you think has done a really good job and deserves to get a certificate then you can nominate them.
The nomination category for this award is:
“This award is aimed at someone who has fuelled enthusiasm, gone over and above the remit of their regular workload to emotionally and practically support pupil(s). This award is held in the highest esteem as the nominations come from the grassroots of our trust. He or she will have made an impact on a pupil’s academic or pastoral life, memorable enough for that young person to want to mark the efforts of the staff member”.
You may need to ask an adult for some help to make your nomination. You can do this online with the link below – you need to send in your nominations by Friday 8 April 2022. Those nominated and the overall winner will be announced on Friday 8 July 2022.

Thank you very much for getting involved – one of the key values of Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust is Celebration and we want to provide an opportunity to recognise the valuable and inspiring contributions that staff across the organisation make to allow us all to work towards our Mission: Better Schools, Better Communities, Better Futures in Christ.
Kind Regards
Brendan Tapping

Year 2’s Puppets
For this half term, Year 2 have been looking at puppets for their textiles DT project. The children researched, designed, created, finished and evaluated their mini-beast puppets. Here are their wonderful final products!
Year 2 Christmas Party
Year 2 had a wonderful afternoon enjoying their Christmas Party. They danced, played games and enjoyed their lovely party food.
We had a surprise visitor at St Bede’s this morning. We hope all our children and families have a very Merry Christmas!
