Police Officer Darren paid reception a visit this afternoon to talk all about ‘stranger danger’, how the police look after us and what to do in an emergency. The children were so engaged and asked Darren lots of excellent questions! Darren was amazed at how many children knew their address and what number to ring in an emergency!
Y5 Library Visit
Year 5 enjoyed another trip to The Word this week for our library session. The children made lanterns to celebrate Chinese New Year and browsed for new books to loan. This time, it seemed to be all about ‘Little People, Big Dreams’ books, with many pupils choosing to take one of these titles back to school. I think we might have borrowed all of them from the library!
It’s wonderful to see the children engaged with some lovely non-fiction books. The library staff said it was lovely to hear the children talking so enthusiastically about their book choices, which put a huge smile on my face.
Keep up the brilliant reading, Year 5!

Y5 Computing at OpenZone
Year 5 visited OpenZone @ The Word this week to take part in a computing workshop. We had the exciting task of creating film trailers using video editing on iMovie. The children did a wonderful job of working in their groups to record footage, select clips and edit their trailers together. I think we have some mini directors on our hands! Take a look of them in action in the photos below. We hope to also share their trailers with you soon.
County Final – Sportshall Athletics 2025!
The St. Bede’s Sportshall Athletics team superbly represented South Tyneside today in a high-level County Final. The children gave their all in a variety of running, jumping and throwing activities and did their school and Borough proud!
The children only returned to school this week, but have shown brilliant dedication to immediately launch themselves straight into training. There were many fantastic performances today, which saw lots of our children produce personal bests in front of big crowds!
The County final today concludes an exciting Sportshall season, where I have been delighted with how everyone has supported each other in both training and competitions! Thank you also to our fantastic parent helpers today, who supported the children so positively throughout.
Y5 and Y6 Party
A Prophecy Predicted – KS2
Our Key Stage 2 children have been working hard rehearsing A Prophecy Predicted, written by the talented Mr Richardson. This week, they finally got the chance to show off their hard work and perform for their families in our school hall.
The children were absolutely wonderful! They raised the roof with their beautiful, joyous voices. Our brave soloists and narrators were brilliant too. What a performance! We are so very proud of each and every one of them.
Times Tables Rock Stars – Battle of the Bands Tournament
Well done to all the children who took part in our recent Whole School Girls vs Boys Battle of the Bands tournament on Times Tables Rock-Stars.
Overall, the Boys won the tournament but there were some very dedicated, hard-working children trying their best to score the most points!
The top 3 girls and the top 3 boys had a chance to show their “Rock’n’Roll” side for their winners photographs.
Congratulations to them all and well done!

We love our new books!
A huge thank you to everyone who supports our book fairs in school. We recently purchased lots of brilliant new books for school using the rewards points we saved up from our last two fairs. Reading for pleasure is a priority at St Bede’s, and we are so grateful for the support of our school family which has allowed us to add so many books to our collection.
Some of the books purchased have been selected from recommended reading spines for our classrooms. Others have been selected with the help of our Reading Ambassadors to add to the library. We are over the moon with them!
A big ‘thank you’ once again.

Fun-Filled Pantomime Adventure!
Children from Reception to Year 6 enjoyed a wonderful outing to the Customs House to watch the pantomime Mother Goose. The show was full of laughter, excitement, and fantastic performances that captivated everyone from start to finish. The children loved joining in with the songs, cheering for the heroes, and booing the villains—it was a truly interactive experience!
