Last week, Year 2 took part in a mini tennis festival where they learned the basic skills of tennis. They practised serving and basic ball skills. They all worked very hard and were beautifully behaved. We have some great tennis players in the making! Thank you to our wonderful parent helpers!
Travelling Crib
In Advent, as we wait and prepare for the coming of Jesus, the children have been invited to join our special project called ‘The Travelling Crib’. Starting this week, each child will take turns bringing home a pack to share with their families.
This is to help us remember the journey Mary and Joseph made to Bethlehem, and as a family take time to stop and think about the true meaning of Christmas.
Children in KS1 will bring home The Christmas Story, while children in KS2 will bring home a book called ‘When the Stars Shone Bright, A Christmas Tale’ telling the Christmas story from the perspective of the three wise men.
Exploring Baptism
The children in Years 1 and 2 recently visited St. Bede’s Church to learn more about the sacrament of baptism, which is an aspect of the Religious Education curriculum.
The children were warmly welcomed by Father Bill, who provided an immersive experience as the children learned about the significance of baptism in the Christian faith, as well as offering insights into the history and meaning behind the sacrament.
The visit not only deepened the children’s understanding of baptism but also fostered a sense of connection and community within St. Bede’s Church.
Children in Need 2023
The children had a fantastic time today when they took part in the ‘Pudsey Bearpees Challenge’ raising money for Children in Need.
Nursery, Year 1, and Year 2 getting active!
Year 6
Everyone Worries!
This week in PSHE, Marie from the Healthy Minds Team, taught us about our worries. She reassured us that everyone worries and taught us how to control how we deal with strong feelings.
Year 2 Infant Trip
Year 2 spent the morning at Marine Park as part of their end of year trip. They began with some den building in the forest area. They used sticks, leaves, stones and much more to create dens for their little gnomes and fairies. I was astounded by their creativity.
Then, they spent some time in the play park on the climbing frames and swings. Of course Miss Langley had to join in! To cool off, the children had ice creams and lollies. I think more ended up on their faces than in their tummies!
To end the afternoon, the children had a ride of the park train where they had not one but two rides. What a fantastic day they have had!
Dance Festival 2023
Our Monday night dance club recently performed a medley of songs from Matilda to a packed out audience at the Customs House in the South Tyneside Dance Festival 2023. The children have been very enthusiastic in dance club and worked extremely hard to remember all of the routine. For some of our children this was their first time on stage.
May Procession
During the month of May we honour Mary, the mother of Jesus. On Wednesday, we held our May Procession and service in Mary’s honour, offering our prayers to her. We were blessed with beautiful weather, processing from the school grounds into the hall where the service was held. Father Bill welcomed the children at the start of the celebration and gave us a blessing at the end.
Year 4 led the celebration, with children from each class bringing flowers to place in the vase at the focal point dedicated to Mary. The children shared a reading, prayers, a litany, sang some beautiful hymns, and one of the children crowned Mary with a lovely garland of flowers.
It was a joyous occasion, and we were impressed with the children’s engagement and beautiful singing throughout.
Infant and Junior Music Festival 2023
Some of our infant and junior children took part in South Tyneside’s Music Festival at the Customs House this week. The infant children performed in the musical ‘Two by Two in a Floating Zoo’ and the junior children performed in ‘Vikings’. They acted, sang and danced brilliantly – we couldn’t be prouder of them!
Scholastic Book Club Orders
Our new Scholastic Book Club is up and running! Go to https://schools.scholastic.co.uk/st-bedes-ne33/digital-book-club to browse the latest books and order online if you wish. For every £1 you spend on this month’s Book Club, our school will earn 20p in Scholastic Rewards.
Please place your order online by April 28th, 2023. Orders will then be delivered to school and distributed. If we are lucky enough to save some rewards points, we will spend them on some more books for our classrooms and library areas.
After everyone’s generous support at our recent book fair, our fantastic school council members helped to choose some new titles with our reward points. They chose some brilliant books for children in EYFS all the way through to Year 6. Here is our first delivery for the KS2 library area:
