As part of our Science topic about the human body, the children have been learning about the circulatory system.
In today’s lesson, the children investigated the affects of exercise on our heart rate.
The children found their pulse and recorded their resting heart-rate. Then they did some vigorous dancing along to some Jump Start Johnny then recorded their heard rates again immediately after exercise and every minute for 5 minutes.
We had a great discussion about why their heart rates increased during exercise.

Year 6 Leavers’ Trip – Broomhouse Farm
Last week, the children enjoyed their final St Bede’s school trip to Broomhouse Farm Forest Adventure in Durham.
Despite the miserable, damp weather, the children had a great time….as you can tell!!
Year 6 Production ‘Pirates of the Curry Bean’
The Year 6 Children performed on stage for their Year 6 Leavers’ Production: Pirates of the Curry Bean
All of the children worked extremely hard to learn their lines, stage directions, songs and dance moves and they performed brilliantly. We have some exceptional talented actors and singers
in Year 6!
The choir which included children from Years 3, 4 and 5 played a crucial part in the play also and sand beautifully.
No photographs were taken during the performance but I made sure I took a photo of the children on stage in their amazing costumes.
Year 6 Leavers’ Disco
On Monday evening, the children in Year 6 enjoyed their Leavers’ Disco.
George from Lil Devil DJ Entertainment certainly kept them entertained with the music and games and the PTFA treat the children to a McDonald’s.
The children (and staff) had a fantastic night!
I didn’t know so many of my class knew how to bust a move on the dance floor!!
Enjoy the photos!
Year 6 D-Day 80 Poetry
6th June 2024 marked 80 years since D-Day, the largest seaborne invasion in history, and the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe. To mark this anniversary, Year 6 wrote some wonderfully descriptive poems entitled ‘Ten Things in a Soldier’s Pocket’ and created some artwork of the Normandy landings using oil pastels. Brilliant work, Year 6!
Feast of St Bede
To celebrate the Feast of Saint Bede, some of our wonderful Year 5 and 6 children wrote and led an assembly all about our patron saint. The children did a fantastic job of researching key facts and writing their own script. They also collectively wrote a prayer to St Bede which they shared with everyone, alongside some beautiful artwork inspired by El Salvador crosses.
St Vincent de Paul Summer Camps 2024 at Holy Island
The St Vincent de Paul (SVP) Society has some availability for children in Years 5 and 6 to attend their annual summer camp at Holy Island. The camp has been running on Holy Island for approximately 70 years. While weeks 1 and 2 are now full, there are places for weeks 3, 5 and 6 of the upcoming summer break. It will be a fantastic experience – some of our teachers even attended the camp when they were in school!
An information poster is available to download here – Holy Island Vinnie Camp

Application forms can be made using the above link, however, if you have any further queries, please contact SVP directly or speak to Mrs Kennedy when in school.
Year 6 Parent Workshop
Today, Niamh Jones, from Lifecycle Service delivered a worry workshop for our Year 6 children and their families. We discussed the different types of worries we may have and she gave us strategies to deal with them. Thank you to Niamh and our parents for their support.
