Easter Mystery

10th April 2025 By carolinekennedy

On the last day of term, children in EYFS and KS1 will be given a copy of The Easter Story to share with their families at home.  KS2 children will be given a copy of the Stations of the Cross, with images drawn by the Mini Vinnies, to take home to share with their families also.

By sharing the Easter story and the Passion of Christ, we remember the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.  As a family, please take time to stop and think about the true meaning of Easter.

We wish you all a happy, healthy and holy Easter!

Year 2 Sketchbooks

8th April 2025 By Samantha McHugh

Year 2 Artists Flourish with Sketchbooks

Our Year 2 students have truly embraced the use of sketchbooks, transforming them into a vital tool for reflection and creativity. These young artists are not only documenting their own progress but also thoughtfully engaging with the work of others. This reflective practice is helping them to develop their ideas and refine their artistic skills.

This term, our art topic has taken us on a vibrant journey through the diverse marks and patterns found in different African countries. The children have been inspired by the rich cultural heritage and unique artistic expressions from across the continent. Their sketchbooks are filled with explorations of these marks, showcasing their growing understanding and appreciation of African art.

Using their sketchbooks, the children have been able to reflect on their own work and the work of others. This process has encouraged them to think critically about their art, make improvements, and develop their ideas further. It’s wonderful to see how they are learning to articulate their thoughts and make connections between different pieces of art.

We are incredibly excited to see the final pieces that will emerge from this creative journey. The sketchbooks have been a fantastic way for the children to experiment and refine their ideas, and we can’t wait to see how these will translate into their final artworks. Stay tuned for a showcase of their amazing work!

Year 2 Visit to Open Zone

25th March 2025 By Samantha McHugh

This morning, Year 2 had an exciting and educational outing to Open Zone, where they had the chance to explore the fascinating world of digital music and coding!

The children were first introduced to the basics of digital music production, learning how to create their own unique tracks using a variety of sounds, beats, and rhythms. They worked with user-friendly music software, experimenting with different instruments and effects to compose their own little masterpieces. It was amazing to see their creativity in action as they discovered how sound can be manipulated and arranged to create something truly special!

Next, Year 2 explored the world of coding through interactive activities. They were guided through fun and engaging tasks that introduced them to the fundamentals of coding. From sequencing simple commands to solving puzzles with logic, our young learners got a real taste of the problem-solving skills that come with coding. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they worked together, learning how coding can be used to bring ideas to life.

Year 2 Cricket Festival

19th March 2025 By Samantha McHugh

Today, our Year 2 pupils s had the incredible opportunity to participate in the All Stars Cricket Festival, where they joined other local schools for a day filled with fun and friendly competition! The event was a fantastic way for the children to experience the joy of cricket and develop their teamwork, coordination, and sportsmanship skills.

Throughout the day, our budding cricketers took part in a variety of exciting cricket-based games. They learned new techniques, practiced their batting and bowling, and enjoyed playing alongside their peers from other schools in the area. It was a brilliant chance for them to work together as a team, and discover their passion for cricket.

Our pupils showed outstanding enthusiasm and determination, and we couldn’t be more proud of their participation. The event was a great success, and it was wonderful to see our children engaging with a sport that promotes not only physical fitness but also positive social interaction and teamwork.

A big thank you to the organisers and volunteers who made today’s festival possible. We look forward to more opportunities for our children to get involved in local events like this in the future!

Well done, Year 2! 🌟 🏏

Year 2 Electiricity

5th February 2025 By Samantha McHugh

After an exciting journey exploring the world of electricity, the children in Year 2  have successfully completed their Science topic with a hands-on, practical lesson in building simple circuits!

Throughout this topic, the class has learned all about how electricity powers our everyday devices. They discovered the key components of a circuit—batteries, wires, and bulbs—and explored how electricity flows through them. This final lesson allowed the students to put their knowledge into action by creating their own circuits!

Each student had the chance to connect wires to batteries and lightbulbs, making sure to form a complete circuit to get the lights shining.   The lesson not only helped solidify their understanding of how electricity works but also encouraged teamwork and problem-solving skills. There were plenty of “Eureka!” moments as the student figured out how to make the circuits work, and they were thrilled when their circuits lit up or made noise.

Year 2 Celebration of the Word

31st January 2025 By Samantha McHugh

Year 2 has had an exciting and meaningful exploration of the different books used in church and in everyday life as part of our current RE topic, Books. The children discovered the significance of these books in our faith and how they help us grow in our understanding of God’s word.

The highlight of their learning was their excellent retelling of the story of Jesus’ Baptism. With great enthusiasm and confidence, the children shared this important moment in the life of Jesus, projecting their voices excellently and bringing the story to life for everyone to enjoy.

Mrs. McHugh is incredibly proud of the children for their hard work, dedication, and effort. Their ability to recall and share the story with such clarity and passion is a testament to their deep engagement with the topic.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support the children and make this event even more special. Your presence meant a lot to the children and added to the joy of the celebration.

As a well-deserved treat for their hard work, the children enjoyed some biscuits back in class, sharing their excitement and reflecting on the celebration together.

Hey Ewe!

12th December 2024 By kmcvittie

This Christmas, the infants delighted audiences with their heart-warming and humorous performance of Hey Ewe! – a fresh take on the traditional Nativity story, told through the eyes of an excitable and curious young sheep.

The youngest ewe in the flock, full of questions and boundless energy, charmed everyone with her inquisitive nature. While the rest of the sheep were happy to stick to their routines, she found herself drawn into the extraordinary events surrounding the birth of Jesus. From shepherds and angels to a very special baby, her curiosity led the audience on a magical journey, reminding us all to see the wonder of the Nativity with fresh eyes.

The children shone on stage, their enthusiasm and joy capturing the true spirit of the season.

A huge well done to all the children who worked so hard to make this year’s production a success. Merry Christmas!
