Showcasing our ‘Shackleton’ work: Year 5

3rd March 2022 By lusher

Year 5 have recently completed a Literacy unit focusing on Shackleton’s Journey by William Grill. We really enjoyed the adventure story of the book and some of us couldn’t believe it was based on real events!

The children have produced a range of lovely work including some ice-inspired poetry and writing in role as a crew member, culminating in a biography of Shackleton at the end of the topic.

Here is a video showcasing some of their hard work. (Click the image below)

Well done, as always, Year 5!

Y6 Crime and Punishment Workshop

8th November 2021 By carolinekennedy

In History, the children in Year 6 are learning about Crime and Punishment.  They welcomed a visitor into school on Friday and enjoyed a fantastic workshop, packed full with activities, learning about crime and punishment throughout the ages:

  • Anglo Saxons – the different laws in existence at that time; fines and punishments for different crimes; oath helpers; and ordeals.
  • Tudors – working in small groups, the children created scripts of crimes they’d committed using Tudor criminal slang.
  • Re-enactment of the trial of Captain William Kidd, a man who was trialled and executed for murder and piracy.
  • Crime and Punishment in Victorian times – the children learnt about crime and punishment in the Victorian era; learning that children as young as 12 could be sent to prison.  They dressed up a Victorian children and created mugshots of themselves.  What a motley crew they are!

Year 5’s Anglo-Saxon Settlement

22nd October 2021 By lusher

In History, Year 5 have been studying the Anglo-Saxons. As part of our DT project, the children made their own Anglo-Saxon houses. They experimented with frame structures and how to reinforce their frames to make them stronger. After designing their houses and surrounding landscapes, the children made their designs come to life this week with Mrs McDonald and Mr Maratty. Their attention to detail was very impressive! Once finished, we took our creations outside to make our own settlement.

Y3 Travel Back to Prehistory!

8th October 2021 By kmcvittie

Y3 enjoyed travelling back in time to Prehistory today. The children created a human timeline that stretched back from 2021 to the beginning of the Stone Age. Everyone became young archaeologists as they handled and described a variety of artefacts. We learned about the changes from the Stone Age to the Iron Age; as well as playing Prehistoric games in a fun filled, educational afternoon!
