Y3 Runners Walking in the Footsteps of Sir Mo Farah

20th December 2023 By kmcvittie

The Y3 Cross Country champions had an exciting morning doing the ‘Mobot’ and walking in the footprints of Sir Mo Farah, which have been installed at South Shields interchange. The children were invited by Nexus to promote the legendary Olympian and 6 times Great North Run champion’s footprints after their recent Cross Country success.

In true festive spirit the children were given a selection box for their cheery smiles; which you will be able to see on Tyne Tees News and the local press in the coming days.

Northumberland, Tyne & Wear Basketball Champions League Success!

1st October 2023 By bmcvittie

On Friday evening, our basketballers represented South Tyneside in the Champion of Champions Regional Finals at the Vertu Motor Arena in Newcastle.  Despite losing our first game, our players showed a lot of character to respond and claim amazing team silver medals!

Victories over New Deleval ( Northumberland), Glynwood (Gateshead) and Preston Grange (North Tyneside) set up a Champion of Champions final against Gosforth Junior Academy (Newcastle) one of the largest primaries in the north east.

Our children were not overawed by playing in front of 3500 spectators or taking on the talented Gosforth school; who had previously won all their games by big margins. Instead we had lots of good possession and took the game to them for the majority of the match creating several chances. However, it wasn’t to be as the Gosforth star player hit 2 outstanding shots from difficult positions to help his school claim the title.

One hundred and seventy two teams were involved in the Hoops4health north east tournament this year, so to become District Champions, then reach the Champion of Champions Grand Final was an incredible achievement.

I was bursting with pride for our players, especially for the skill and personality they showed in the Grand final against Gosforth. The whole squad have developed as both players and people throughout the basketball season.

Meanwhile, it was truly uplifting to see the brilliant support from our St. Bede’s community who travelled to Newcastle to support our children on their exciting sporting journey!

South Tyneside Team Cross Country Champions 2023!

1st October 2023 By bmcvittie

Eight teams from St. Bede’s consisting of 41 children became South Tyneside Team Cross Country Champions today! It was wonderful to have so many boys and girls representing our school in a single event. The children have shown incredible dedication to train for the competition and everyone strived for personal best performances on the day.

I was so proud of how everyone supported each other and the amazing parental support at Temple Park. We are still the only small school to have won the event, so it shows the power of teamship where everyone supports each other and is happy to celebrate each other’s successes along the way!

Y1/2 Summer Sport & Well Being Club!

5th August 2023 By bmcvittie

Well done to our Y1 & Y2 who were all brilliant in our summer sport & well being club, despite the wet weather. Wherever possible, we got outside to enjoy a wide variety of games, and whenever we were forced back inside the children were equally positive enjoying indoor activities. I’m sure the club will help many of our children in their transition to the juniors, while it was wonderful fun teaching our talented children. I hope you all have a great summer with your families and enjoy continuing to get active!
