Last night the children performed a spectacular dance to ‘Waka Waka’ by Shakira at the Customs House Dance Festival! The children danced so confidently on the stage in front of a huge audience – they were amazing!
Mrs Hill and I couldn’t be prouder of our incredible children, a huge well done to you all!!
Year 4 enjoyed their visit to The Word this morning. They completed a quiz about the library then listened to a story ‘The Lost Happy Endings’ by Carol Ann Duffy.
We set up a library ticket for Year 4 and the children were allowed to borrow one book each to read in school. Here they are choosing their books and checking them out.
Today a very special lady paid a visit to Reception. Pauline Waters, author of ‘Stanley the Seagull’ came to talk to the children all about her job as an author. Pauline read the story ‘Stanley and the Great North Run’ to the children and talked about all of the stages involved in writing and publishing a book. The children asked some very interesting questions and have been inspired to write their own stories! Pauline left the children with one last important message, “everyone can be an author. You just need to start with an idea.”

Year 5 visited the children’s library at The Word today. The library staff told us all about the library and we had a quiz about what we’d learned. We heard some new stories and then had time to select some books to loan. Some of us couldn’t wait to dive into our new books and even took them outside to read on the playground at lunchtime. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
Year 4 had a fantastic visit to Arbeia Roman Fort today and the children were very lucky to avoid the bad weather throughout the day.
First, they enjoyed the ‘Roman Soldier Touch Tour’ which was an interactive tour of the site looking at real and replica artefacts bringing the history of Arbeia and the lives of the Roman soldiers to life.
Then, the children explored various artefacts in the Museum.
Finally, through the ‘Time Quest’ Dig activity, the children took on the role of archaeologists, and using real artefacts, discovered how to interpret excavated finds to explore the past from a range of sources of information to enable them to piece together the story of Roman life along the frontier.
On Sunday, the First Holy Communion children celebrated their ‘Going Forth’ Mass, where they received their certificates from Fr Bill.

Our Y1/2 Gymnasts represented both South Tyneside and St. Bede’s today at the prestigious Royal Grammar School in Jesmond. They performed with confidence and composure, as they delivered excellent routines to the judges! While they didn’t medal on this occasion, they can be so proud of their fabulous performances!
Our team also had a great time enjoying a variety of fun gymnastics activities in a wonderful setting. Thank you to everyone for your efforts, I was so proud of you all today; I’m sure we’ll be back competing with the very best next year!
Three teams of pupils from Year 5 and Year 6 enjoyed competing at Monkton Stadium in the Quadkids Athletics event this week. Everyone tried so hard and should be extremely pleased with their performances and I was very proud to see everyone supporting each other with lots of enthusiasm and kind words. The children had buckets of positive energy and it was a delight to hear them cheering each other on. A huge ‘well done’ from Mrs Usher.
6th June 2024 marked 80 years since D-Day, the largest seaborne invasion in history, and the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe. To mark this anniversary, Year 6 wrote some wonderfully descriptive poems entitled ‘Ten Things in a Soldier’s Pocket’ and created some artwork of the Normandy landings using oil pastels. Brilliant work, Year 6!
The Year 1 children showcased their map reading skills by tackling various orienteering challenges at South Marine Park. Working in teams, they searched for clues and gathered materials. After completing the course, they used the collected materials to construct a home for their team’s bear.
