6th June 2024 marked 80 years since D-Day, the largest seaborne invasion in history, and the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe. To mark this anniversary, Year 6 wrote some wonderfully descriptive poems entitled ‘Ten Things in a Soldier’s Pocket’ and created some artwork of the Normandy landings using oil pastels. Brilliant work, Year 6!
Y1 Outdoor and Adventure
The Year 1 children showcased their map reading skills by tackling various orienteering challenges at South Marine Park. Working in teams, they searched for clues and gathered materials. After completing the course, they used the collected materials to construct a home for their team’s bear.
Y3/4 District Athletics Champions 2024!
Thirty Y3/4 athletes had a wonderful time competing in the District Athletics Championships at Monkton Stadium; while we have also just found out that our A Team are District Champions – a great achievement considering there were 47 teams taking part!
All of our children had a great attitude in training and everyone aimed for personal best performances in the finals. Once again, the support throughout the squad for each other was so positive and up lifting- well done everyone!
The A team will now go on to represent South Tyneside in the County Finals on Friday 21st June at Monkton Stadium. They will compete against the best athletes from Newcastle, North Tyneside, Sunderland and Gateshead.
It was great to see so much support for St. Bede’s from our school community inside the stadium, which really helped inspire our teams.
Congratulations to our whole squad on a great day’s athletics and good luck to our A team in the County Finals!
First Holy Communion Day
Some of our Year 4 children made their first Holy Communion this morning. It was a wonderful Mass – the Catechists had prepared the children well, the church was filled with families and friends, the children read beautifully and looked amazing! Everyone was so proud of them!
After Mass, the children made their way to the church hall which had been decorated with beautiful artwork, prayers and cards made by their St Bede’s family. The children then tucked into their First Holy Communion breakfast and continued the celebrations at home with their families.
Girls District Cricket Champions 2024!
Our three girls cricket teams had a great time at Whitburn CC today; where our A team were crowned District champions!
All of our girls have shown a lot of dedication in recent months playing cricket at lunchtimes; and it was wonderful to see them all enjoying themselves today in the District finals.
The A team showed a lot of outstanding batting, bowling, fielding skills and consistency to win all of their games; while the incredible team sprit they displayed was wonderful to watch!
Thank you to all of the girls for your positive attitude towards cricket in recent months, as it has been a pleasure to see you all embrace the game. Finally, thanks to our great parental helpers at Whitburn CC.

Y3 Outdoor Adventurers!
Y3 today enjoyed orienteering around South Marine Park by using their mapwork skills. They navigated around the park in teams to find letters and numbers which helped them to solve a variety of puzzles. During the course, they also embarked on several problem solving activities, where they had to use communication and teamwork skills. The children were all fantastic and really embraced the challenges in a wonderful event!

Mini & Junior Great North Run Places
Red Sky Foundation has been able to secure extra places in the Mini & Junior Great North Run on Saturday 7th September. The children’s run is one of the hottest tickets in town, its an opportunity for children to exercise and have lots of fun while doing so. Every year the places get snapped up straight away, so we’re extremely lucky to have access to the spaces; they are limited so its first come first served, but one thing for sure is I can assure those taking part will have such a brilliant time representing school and #TEAMREDSKY.

We had a wonderful visit from Father Bill from St Bede’s Church. He told us all about his job, the church and events that take place in church. We enjoyed asking him lots of questions.
