In DT, the children looked at a range of packaging and ingredients in a range of curries.
They had to choose the ingredients they would include in our class vegetable curry.
The children helped to peel, chop, dice, pour, cook, stir and serve the curry. All children had to evaluate the curry by its look, smell and taste….and it was a winning recipe.
Many children went back for seconds……and even thirds!!
And we think our waiters looked the part aswel!
we have to say….our waiters did a great job serving and giving out the dishes…..and they certainly looked the part!

Our Geography topic has been learning about biomes and focussing on the Tropical Rainforest biomes.
Recently, the children have been learning about deforestation and the pros and cons this brings.
Today the children were made into ‘suspects’ for the murder of Chico Mendez; a Brazilian rubber tapper, trade union leader ad environmentalist who fought to preserve the Amazon rainforest.
The children were split into groups of three which represented a ‘suspect’ and our team of ‘barristers’ looked at all the evidence and questioned the suspects. Each ‘suspect’ had to answer the barristers questions, argue their point on why they were innocent and then explain who they thought the murderer was based on the evidence.
The team of barristers asked some excellent questions and many of our suspects gave a very convincing argument on how they were innocent and pointing the blame on someone else.
A great afternoon which had all the children engaged and enthusiastic. ratty and I thought we were in a real courtroom!

Year 6 had the pleasure of inviting their parents into school to watch their class liturgy.
It was great to have everyone back into the school to enjoy a time of worship, reflection and prayer.
The children did a great job and particularly enjoyed the juice and biscuits afterwards!

The children attended The Community Fire Station in South Shields and took part in the RAP event which looked at how to stay safe in many different scenarios, including; fire safety, water safety and how to stay safe when out playing.
The children had a great time and learned a lot and particularly enjoyed the live fire demonstration at the end.
We travelled to and from the event via public transport and the children were so well behaved and a credit to the school. We even received a comment from another passenger on the bus about how well behaved they were.
Well done Year 6!

In Art, the children have been learning about Gustav Klimt and studied some of his pieces.
The children used the ideas of Klimt’s intricate detail and use of ‘Zentangles’ and re-created one of the patterns from the portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer. They then created a relief by making this pattern 3D by using rice.
Next the children will embellish their patterns using foil to replicate the metallic look used in Klimt’s work.
(More pictures to follow with finished pieces)

The children used pots with a magnifying glass to look closely at the different creatures and followed a classification key to identify what type of invertebrate it was. We discovered the best place to find a range of habitats and creatures was on the school field next to the trim trail. The children had a great time exploring and managed to find a broad range of invertebrates on their hunt.

As part of our History topic of the Ancient Greeks, year 4 have been looking at Greek art and their use of mosaics.
They have looked at how mosaics were made and the intricate detail that went into them.
The children then created their own mosaic designs on paper either copying an idea from the Greek mosaics we looked at or creating their own pattern or picture.
Children will build on these skills to create their own mosaics in a few weeks.
We even enjoyed listening to some traditional Greek music while working!

To start our new Science topic ‘States of Matter’, the children were given pictures of various items and worked in groups to ‘sort’ the pictures.
I didn’t tell the children how they needed to be sorted as it gave them the opportunity to discuss and come up with their own sorting criteria.
The children worked well in their groups and the scientific conversations that I overheard were fantastic.
Afterwards, I introduced our topic and the children then had to re-sort their pictures.
We discussed the differences between the three states of matter and discussed the properties of each.
