🚜 Year 2’s Fantastic Farm Adventure at Hall Hill Farm! 🐑

Year 2 had an absolutely amazing day at Hall Hill Farm, filled with fun, learning, and unforgettable animal encounters! 🐾

As part of our Science topic on animals and their habitats, the children explored how different animals are suited to their environments. They learned lots of fascinating facts and saw these ideas come to life all around the farm.

Here are just some of the highlights from our day:

  • 🍼 Bottle-feeding lambs – a hands-on experience the children loved!
  • 🐣 Holding fluffy chicks and learning about their life cycle
  • 🐐 Feeding sheep and goats – some were very eager for snacks!
  • 🐇 Petting soft rabbits and talking about their habitats
  • 🐄 Milking pretend cows – lots of laughs and great technique!
  • 🐹 Holding guinea pigs – gentle and adorable!
  • 🦘 Seeing wallabies up close and learning about their unique features
  • 🐴 Meeting horses and alpacas – a big hit with everyone!
  • 🚜 Enjoying a tractor ride tour of the farm – a brilliant way to see even more animals and the beautiful surroundings

It was a day full of smiles, curiosity, and hands-on experiences that brought our Science learning to life. We truly had the best day!

   

Reception Visit Hall Hill Farm

Despite the grey skies and a bit of rain, our trip to the farm turned out to be a fantastic adventure! The children were full of excitement as we explored everything the farm had to offer. We had the chance to feed and hold a variety of friendly animals—from fluffy chicks, and hungry lambs to curious goats!

The highlight for many was the tractor ride, which gave us a bumpy but fun tour around the fields to see the Highland Cows and Llamas.

Afterwards, the rain eased off just enough for us to enjoy some time in the play park.

A big thank you to the farm staff for making us feel so welcome, and to everyone who helped make the day such a success!

Year 1 Visit to Hall Hill Farm

Year 1 had a fantastic day out at Hall Hill Farm! The children loved meeting all the different farm animals – they held fluffy chicks and guinea pigs, and even fed a baby lamb with a bottle, which was a real highlight of the day.

The children also enjoyed a bumpy but brilliant tractor ride around the farm, taking in the countryside views and spotting even more animals along the way.

It was a fun-filled, hands-on experience that helped bring their learning about animals and life on the farm to life.

Year 6 visit to South Shields Surf School

As an end of year ‘leavers’ trip, year 6 visited South Shields Surf School for an afternoon of surfing.

After a battle getting into their wetsuits, the children braved the cold North Sea to learn how to surf. The children embraced this opportunity, and it was fantastic to see them enjoying themselves, having fun and learning something new.

Their behaviour and attitude were outstanding and as you can see from the pictures, they had a great time!

County Athletics Finals 2025 – Team Silver & Individual Successes!

Before we even started today, I was very proud of our two teams to be in the County Finals alongside the best 20 teams from the 400 plus sides which had been involved in recent District Athletics competitions.

Our teams put in their usual determined performances and achieved so much, despite being one of the smallest schools to qualify for the finals.

Firstly, our Y3/4 team were in incredible from as they jumped, threw and sprinted their way to silver medals as they finished County Runners up 2025!

Meanwhile, the Year 5/6 put their heart and soul into their athletics and finished a highly creditable 6th in the County; they should be very proud of themselves – especially after becoming District Champions only a few days ago.

We also collected individual accolades as Harvey & Ralph achieved joint silver in the Y3/4 boys competition, while Robyn was the highest scoring County girl – an outstanding achievement!

Today concluded an exciting and highly successful athletics summer season where a lot of children have grown and flourished.

It has been great to see the children developing their skills and teamship together and the whole school community coming together as one to support each other.

Thank you to everyone who supported our amazing children at Monkton Stadium today and to all of our brilliant athletes – I am so proud of you all!

Y5/6 District Athletics Champions 2025!

Yesterday thirty Y5/6 athletes had a wonderful time competing in the District Athletics Championships at Monkton Stadium. All of our teams performed superbly; while our A team were overall District Champions- an outstanding achievement!

Our children had a great attitude in training and everyone strived for  personal best performances in the finals. Once again, the support throughout the squad for each other was so positive and up lifting- well done everyone!

The A team will now go on to represent South Tyneside in the County Finals on Friday 27th June at Monkton Stadium. They will compete against the best athletes from Newcastle, North Tyneside, Sunderland and Gateshead.

It was great to see so much support for St. Bede’s children from our school community inside the stadium, which really helped inspire our teams!

Congratulations to our whole squad on a great day’s athletics and good luck to our A team in the County Finals!

Meanwhile, on a personal note I was very proud of how much the children have developed holistically as both athletes and people during their sporting journey over the last four years; in what for many was their last competitive event for St. Bede’s. They all were a credit to themselves, their family and our school.

 

 

 

 

 

First Holy Communion Going Forth Mass

On Sunday, the First Holy Communion children celebrated their ‘Going Forth’ Mass, where they received their certificates from Fr Bill.

First Holy Communion Day

Some of our Year 4 children made their first Holy Communion on Saturday June 14th.  It was a wonderful mass – the church was filled with families, friends and staff to support the children, the children read beautifully and looked amazing!  Everyone was so proud of them!

After Mass, the children headed down to the church hall which was decorated with beautiful artwork, prayers, poems and cards made by their St Bede’s family.  The children then tucked into their First Holy Communion breakfast before continuing the celebrations at home with their families.

Y4 Arbeia Visit

Year 4 had a fantastic visit to Arbeia Roman Fort last week.  The first part of their visit was the ‘Roman Soldier Touch Tour’ which was an interactive tour of the site looking at real and replica artefacts bringing the history of Arbeia and the lives of the Roman soldiers to life.

 

Their next workshop was the ‘Time Quest’ Dig activity.  The children took on the role of archaeologists, and discovered how to interpret excavated finds to explore the past from a range of sources of information to enable them to piece together the story of Roman life along the frontier.

The children enjoyed a lovely lunch, explored the West Gate and then enjoyed an art activity during which they drew various artefacts in the museum and made a frieze of their artwork to take back to school.
