Exploring Our Five Senses in Year 1

27th November 2024 By kmcvittie

Year 1 has been explore and learn about their five senses. Through hands-on investigations, the children discovered how each sense helps us understand and navigate the world around us.

Hearing
The children sharpened their listening skills by identifying everyday noises. From ringing phones to sea waves, it was amazing to see how well their ears could detect and differentiate sounds.

Seeing
Next, we challenged the children to draw a house while blindfolded! It quickly became clear how important our eyes are for creating and observing details. With their blindfolds removed, they compared their drawings and enjoyed a good laugh!

Touch
For the sense of touch, we used a “feely bag” filled with familiar classroom objects. The children had to rely on their hands to feel the shape, texture, and size of each item, guessing what it might be.

Taste
In a tasty experiment, the class sampled a variety of crisps. From tangy salt and vinegar to cheese and onion flavours, the children had fun identifying their explain the tastes.

Smell
Finally, we used our noses to sniff out fruity scents. Guessing the fruit based on smell alone was a delightful way to engage their sense of smell.

The children loved these activities, and they’ve developed a deeper appreciation for their senses.

Year 4 Celebration of the Word – The Lost Sheep

20th November 2024 By carolinekennedy

In RE, Year 4 have been learning about Reconciliation.  Some of the children have been preparing for their First Reconciliation.  The Sacrament of Reconciliation celebrates the fact that we are loved and forgiven by God and that when we say sorry to one another and experience forgiveness we are experiencing God’s forgiveness.

We all know that God loves us and is always ready to forgive us, no matter what.  His love for us is unconditional.  The children wanted to share this unconditional love and friendship with their families and friends in our ‘Lost Sheep’ Celebration of the Word.

Y3- Our Young Scientists!

19th November 2024 By bmcvittie

Our young scientists in Y3 have been investigating how much fat various liquids and foods contain. They pressed each item against plain paper and once it had dried looked for translucent stains when the paper was held up to the light.

They discovered, like many predicted that foods like cake and margarine left greasy stains due to the fat content.  The children did really well working together and made sure they conducted fair tests.

Year 5 visit to The Word

12th November 2024 By lusher

Year 5 were excited for their library visit to The Word today. The children enjoyed browsing for their next book, and I particularly enjoyed hearing them discussing their favourite authors and making recommendations to their friends. We used our book bags which were designed by our Reading Ambassadors to safely carry our chosen books back to school. What a lovely morning!
