Reception had a fantastic morning on Tuesday at the Urban Factory where they took part in an exciting coordination challenge. The children had to complete lots of challenges that put their balance, agility and coordination to the test! The children had so much fun and! Thank you to our lovely parent helpers who accompanied us on the trip, it is very much appreciated.
Travelling Crib
In Advent, as we wait and prepare for the coming of Jesus, the children have been invited to join our special project called ‘The Travelling Crib’. Starting this week, each child will take turns bringing home a pack to share with their families.
This is to help us remember the journey Mary and Joseph made to Bethlehem, and as a family take time to stop and think about the true meaning of Christmas.
Children in KS1 will bring home The Christmas Story, while children in KS2 will bring home a book called ‘When the Stars Shone Bright, A Christmas Tale’ telling the Christmas story from the perspective of the three wise men.
Police Visit Reception
This week the children had a very exciting visitor called Steve who is our local Community Police Officer. Steve spoke to the children about his important job and what he does to look after us. The children asked some great questions and some even decided that they would like to be Police Officers when they grow up!
School Nurses Visit Reception
Today we had some special visitors talk to us about the importance of washing our hands, brushing our teeth and eating healthy food.
Reception Visit Marine Park
Reception had a fantastic time at Marine Park this morning! They had great fun playing on the park, playing with skips and balls on the field and building fairy gardens in the woodland area. The children then enjoyed a delicious ice cream to cool down and got to ride on the park train. What a busy morning! Next, it was the highlight of the day – lunch! Reception enjoyed a lovely lunch in the park with their friends before heading back to school. The children were beautifully behaved and made all of the staff incredibly proud.
I would like to say a big thank you to our wonderful parent helpers and a HUGE thank you to Smith’s Seaview Cafe for very kindly supplying the children’s ice creams free of charge.
May Procession
During the month of May we honour Mary, the mother of Jesus. On Wednesday, we held our May Procession and service in Mary’s honour, offering our prayers to her. We were blessed with beautiful weather, processing from the school grounds into the hall where the service was held. Father Bill welcomed the children at the start of the celebration and gave us a blessing at the end.
Year 4 led the celebration, with children from each class bringing flowers to place in the vase at the focal point dedicated to Mary. The children shared a reading, prayers, a litany, sang some beautiful hymns, and one of the children crowned Mary with a lovely garland of flowers.
It was a joyous occasion, and we were impressed with the children’s engagement and beautiful singing throughout.
Reception Easter Liturgy
This morning the children performed a wonderful Liturgy for families to celebrate Easter. The children spoke, sang and danced so beautifully. As always, we are so proud of the children!
Reception trip to the Urban Factory
On Tuesday morning the children in Reception headed to the Urban Factory to take part in a Gymnastics Festival. The children had a great time balancing on beams, learning how to do forward rolls, climbing and moving around on a variety of apparatus.
Scholastic Book Club Orders
Our new Scholastic Book Club is up and running! Go to https://schools.scholastic.co.uk/st-bedes-ne33/digital-book-club to browse the latest books and order online if you wish. For every £1 you spend on this month’s Book Club, our school will earn 20p in Scholastic Rewards.

After everyone’s generous support at our recent book fair, our fantastic school council members helped to choose some new titles with our reward points. They chose some brilliant books for children in EYFS all the way through to Year 6. Here is our first delivery for the KS2 library area:
Reception visit the Discovery Museum
Reception have been on a very exciting trip to the Discovery Museum as part of our ‘Toys Through Time’ topic. The children took part in a workshop where they had the opportunity to handle and play with a range of old and new toys. They were then asked to sort them into groups including; old and new, what material they were made from and whether they were dull or colourful. After the workshop the children enjoyed their packed lunches (something they had been talking about for days at school!) On the afternoon the children completed a toy trail around the museum and had great fun in the science exhibition. The children were exceptionally well behaved and represented our school so beautifully.
