Healthy Minds

16th September 2022 By katiedixon

We are pleased to inform you we have teamed up with The Healthy Minds Team, South Tyneside. They are an NHS service for children and young people who attend a school or college in South Tyneside and/or are registered with a local GP to improve mental health outcomes for children and young people.

They offer evidence-based treatments, including individual, group, and family work, for a variety of common mental health issues, these may include:

  • Low Mood and Depression
  • Worry and Anxiety
  • Controlling Anger & Emotions
  • Bereavement/Loss
  • Bullying
  • Self-Harming Behaviours
  • Relationship & Family Difficulties
  • Building Self Esteem
  • Developing Resilience

They aim to help children and young people at the earliest possible stage, in order to support children, young people and families to develop skills and promote positive wellbeing and reduce the risk of further distress.

Our named Educational Mental Health Practitioner is Marie Holmes. Marie will be based in our school, working with Mrs Welsh, on a Friday.

We have planned assemblies to introduce the children to Marie so that she is a familiar face in school.

Year 1 and 2 will be taking part in a programme called We Eat Elephants. This is a story based approach to help children understand what they are feeling, why and how to deal with the effects.

Marie will be delivering the sessions, during PSHE, supported by Mrs Welsh.

If you would like any more information on the programme or think your child would benefit from a 1:1 programme of work with Marie, please contact Mrs Welsh directly in school.
