Year 5 – Hoops 4 Health

7th May 2024 By lusher

The children in Year 5 enjoyed an amazing afternoon with some Newcastle Eagles players.

The Hoops 4 Health roadshow concentrated on health messages such as mental and social well-being, how to stay fit and look after the heart and lungs, stay hydrated with tap water and eating a balanced diet. The children also had the opportunity to take part in some basketball activities with the Eagles players!

The children were fantastic at answering the players’ questions and taking part in the activities.

Well done everyone!

Year 5 DT – Star Bakers!

7th May 2024 By lusher

Year 5 showed off their baking skill in DT recently. We had a lovely (and rather messy) morning mixing batches of bread dough then adding our chosen additional ingredients. After the dough had risen, we shaped our bread into rolls following the designs we’d chosen to use. Finally, we tasted and evaluated our bread rolls once they had been baked.

Good job, Year 5!

Mini Vinnies’ Coffee Morning at St Bede’s Church

25th March 2024 By carolinekennedy

The Mini Vinnies hosted a coffee morning today after Palm Sunday Mass.

There was a Tombola stall, a delicious Cale Sale and the Mini Vinnies sold bookmarks they’d made as well as Stations of the Cross booklets in which they’d produced the beautiful artwork.

The Mini Vinnies were brilliant and the morning was a huge success – they raised £166.57 for the St Vincent de Paul Society.

Everyone had a fantastic day!  Well done Mini Vinnies and a big thank you to the parents and staff who supported the event too!

CAFOD Family Fast Day

29th February 2024 By carolinekennedy

On Friday 23rd February it was CAFOD Family Fast Day.  St Bede’s families showed their commitment to helping people in the local community and further afield, by generously supporting our Lenten appeal to help us help those less fortunate than ourselves.

Children donated tins of food to the Key to Life Foodbank (an operation providing emergency food and support to people in crisis across South Tyneside) as well as donating money to CAFOD (Catholic Aid for Overseas Development), one of the largest networks in the world, helping some of the poorest and marginalised people in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

We collected over £50 in monetary donations and a wealth of food products for the Key to Life Foodbank.  As you can see by the photographs of our Mini Vinnies with our food donations, together we make a huge difference!

Year 5 Geography Fieldwork

12th February 2024 By lusher

Year 5 recently visited South Shields town centre as part of their work on settlements. Their fieldwork included comparing  how some areas of the town were in the past to how they are now. Year 5 carefully completed some sensory mapping and will use this in their topic work back in school. Well done, Year 5!

Exploring Islam in RE

12th February 2024 By lusher

In our RE lessons, we have been exploring Islam. We have particularly been learning about Hajj and Ramadan. Two of our friends kindly brought in some items from home to share with us all. It was wonderful to hear them talk so passionately about their faith.

Mini Vinnies’ Coffee Morning at St Bede’s Church

11th February 2024 By carolinekennedy

The Mini Vinnies hosted their first coffee morning today after Mass.  The children made some delicious cakes and brought in some great prizes for the Tombola stall.

After setting up the church hall in preparation for the coffee morning, the Mini Vinnies attended Mass and then were put to work!  The morning was a huge success, with the Mini Vinnies raising £134.42 towards repairs for the church roof.

Everyone had a fantastic day and Fr Bill was thrilled with the money raised! Well done Mini Vinnies!!!

Commissioning of the Mini Vinnies

5th February 2024 By carolinekennedy

In the Autumn term, we asked for children to volunteer to become Mini Vinnies.  We were astounded by the huge number of applications received from our KS2 children.  It was so difficult to choose between the thoughtful applications of those children wanting to make a difference in their community, so, with over 40 applications, we decided to run 2 Mini Vinnies’ groups.  Here they are being commissioned today.
