Y3 History Enquiry – Was Stone Age Man Just a Simple Hunter Gatherer?
The young historians in Y3 took part in an oracy session, where they challenged the misconception that early man were mere hunter-gatherers who were solely interested in consuming food. During the debate, we discovered how cave men had a great passion for producing painting; so much so that they cleverly made their pigments from charcoal and colourful minerals. They also had beliefs in the animal Gods and loved their families that they organised respectful burials showing their emotional side; very much like modern day humans.
Well done to the children who bravely stood up to articulate their arguments to a respectful group. They listened, understood and then responded to the view of their fellow historians.
It proved to be a great session, where the children not only thought like historians but also spoke like ones too. They then went on to write a response to their enquiry question with the disciplinary knowledge they had developed from the debating lesson.
Year 3 Bookworms Explore the Word!
Year 3 enjoyed a wonderful visit to our local library this morning. The children enjoyed an interesting story, before designing a creative card connected to the exciting tale. Afterwards, the children keenly browsed the array of books before selecting a favourite they could read back at school. All of the children enjoyed their visit and showed lots of respect to the staff and other library users. Well done Year 3 – let’s make every day a reading day.

St Bede’s Art Gallery
🎨 Our First St Bede’s Art Gallery!
We’re delighted to invite you to explore our very first St Bede’s Art Gallery, a celebration of creativity, reflection, and faith. Over the past academic year, children from Nursery to Year 5 have taken part in the Spirited Arts competition, exploring the theme “All God’s Creatures.”
Each piece of artwork has been thoughtfully linked to words from Scripture, helping our pupils reflect on the beauty and meaning of God’s creation. From colourful collages to intricate sculptures, the children have poured their hearts into expressing how animals and nature connect to faith, care, and wonder.
🖼️ The gallery is on display for you to enjoy from Monday to Wednesday this week on your way to and from the curriculum meetings. We hope it brings you joy, inspiration, and pride in the incredible work your children have created.
This is our first time hosting an art gallery, and we hope to make it a yearly tradition—not only to showcase our children’s talents, but also to help raise funds for the school.
📖 Before you leave, please take a moment to share your feedback or ideas in the book provided at the door. Your thoughts will help us grow and make future exhibitions even more special.
Thank you for your continued support.

Y3 Orienteering Certificates For Our Outdoor Adventurers!
Last week Y3 were presented with their Orienteering certificates after their brilliant teamwork and problem solving skills helped them to navigate around Marine Park recently.
I look forward to presenting more certificates and medals on Tuesday for recent events.
Y3 Art Nouveau & Patterns in Nature
We have many keen artists in Y3 and they have really enjoyed their Patterns in Nature unit. The inspiration has been the brilliant Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Art Nouveau era (1890’s to the eve of World War One). The children have explored using a wide range of art and design techniques using colour, pattern, tone, line and shape. They have especially loved painting with watercolours to control tone in their pantings. They have produced some wonderful art that they should all be proud of- well done everyone!
When Tom Palmer came to St Bede’s!
We were thrilled to welcome award-winning author Tom Palmer to our school this week for an exciting and inspiring visit with our KS2 children.
Tom spoke passionately about his journey as a writer and the importance of reading, captivating pupils with stories from his books and real-life experiences.
The children had the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions about writing, books, and what it’s like to be an author. Tom’s answers were both insightful and encouraging, sparking curiosity and creativity across the room.
One of the highlights of the visit was a lively penalty shootout quiz, where pupils tested their knowledge in a fun and interactive way, combining sport and storytelling in true Tom Palmer style!
It was a fantastic morning that left our young readers and writers feeling motivated and full of ideas. A huge thank you to Tom for visiting and sharing his love of books with us!
