Y3 Durham Prehistory Visit!

29th September 2025 By bmcvittie

Our Y3 mini-archaeologists enjoyed an interesting Stone-Bronze Age day at the Museum of Archaeology in Durham! We learned about the chronology of Prehistory and analysed an exciting range of ancient artefacts. The children completed an exciting gallery trail and also considered what we could deduce from the bones of a skeleton. Y3 conducted themselves superbly throughout the visit and even took in some of the sites of a picturesque Durham. Thank you also to our great parent helpers!

District Team Cross Country Champions 2025!

26th September 2025 By bmcvittie

Wow – What. A. Team!!

Eight teams from St. Bede’s consisting of 41 children became South Tyneside Team Cross Country Champions today!

Firstly, it was wonderful to have so many boys and girls representing our school in a single event. Our children showed incredible energy to support their friends and amazing consistency of high-level performances from Year 3 right through to Year 6.

Our young athletes have shown great dedication to train for the competition and everyone strived for personal best performances on the day. We had 3 individual District Champions, multiple podium finishers and remarkably 5 different year group team champions; ultimately everyone contributed so much to our collective team.

There were many excellent ‘sporty schools’ at the event consisting of over 400 children, so our children should be very proud to be the overall top team on the day.

Personally I was so proud of how everyone relentlessly supported each other and the amazing parental support at Temple Park. When we genuinely support each other, it can take you a long way together.

Summer Sport & Art Club 2025!

25th July 2025 By bmcvittie

Our children were all amazing in our Summer Sport & Art Club this week! We took full advantage of the dry, sunny weather to enjoy a wide variety of activities around our school grounds.

The children embraced all of the activities with a great attitude and really enjoyed themselves with their friends, while developing new skills. I’m sure the club will also help many of the Infant children in their transition to the juniors in September; while it was a joy teaching our talented children.

I hope you all have a great summer with your families and continue to enjoy keeping active and creative!

Sports Day 2025!

19th July 2025 By bmcvittie

Well done to all of our children who enjoyed taking part in our Sports Day in such a positive spirit in the South Shields sunshine. It was great to see them supported by our wonderful school community with so many warm smiles on the day. Congratulations to Bernadette who retained their title by a narrow 3 points with the event going down to the final race. Thank you once again to everyone who made this a lovely community event.

Year 6 – A Sporting Memory Lane …

15th July 2025 By bmcvittie

During their time at St. Bede’s, Year 6 have contributed so much to school sport and it has been lovely getting to know them and seeing them grow. Looking back nostalgically at these photos, there have been many wonderful memories of the children enjoying physical activity together. It is sad that Y6 wll be moving on this week; but good luck in your new schools where I’m sure you will thrive and thankyou for many magical moments at St. Bede’s.

Mr. McVittie

County Athletics Finals 2025 – Team Silver & Individual Successes!

27th June 2025 By bmcvittie

Before we even started today, I was very proud of our two teams to be in the County Finals alongside the best 20 teams from the 400 plus sides which had been involved in recent District Athletics competitions.

Our teams put in their usual determined performances and achieved so much, despite being one of the smallest schools to qualify for the finals.

Firstly, our Y3/4 team were in incredible from as they jumped, threw and sprinted their way to silver medals as they finished County Runners up 2025!

Meanwhile, the Year 5/6 put their heart and soul into their athletics and finished a highly creditable 6th in the County; they should be very proud of themselves – especially after becoming District Champions only a few days ago.

We also collected individual accolades as Harvey & Ralph achieved joint silver in the Y3/4 boys competition, while Robyn was the highest scoring County girl – an outstanding achievement!

Today concluded an exciting and highly successful athletics summer season where a lot of children have grown and flourished.

It has been great to see the children developing their skills and teamship together and the whole school community coming together as one to support each other.

Thank you to everyone who supported our amazing children at Monkton Stadium today and to all of our brilliant athletes – I am so proud of you all!
