Year 5 had the fantastic opportunity to work with some of the players from Newcastle Eagles this week. They took part in the wonderful Hoops 4 Health roadshow. The afternoon centred around ways to stay active and healthy. Plus, there was the opportunity to play some basketball! Year 5 worked very hard and had a brilliant afternoon. Y3/4 District Sportshall Athletics – Team Silver Success!
Our young Sportshall Athletics team achieved brilliant team silver medals in the District Finals today. The children were amazing considering it was their first indoor athletics event!
Children competed in running, throwing and jumping events and displayed amazing skill and teamwork throughout.
Our young athletes showed great dedication to train for the competition; while there were many personal best performances!
I was so proud of how everyone supported each other; congratulations to everyone in our squad! Thank you also to our fantastic parent helpers today who supported the children so enthusiastically.
County Final – Sportshall Athletics 2026!
The St. Bede’s Sportshall Athletics team superbly represented South Tyneside today in a high-level County Final. The children gave their all in a variety of running, jumping and throwing activities and did their school and Borough proud!
The children only returned to school this week, but have shown brilliant dedication to immediately launch themselves straight into training. There were many fantastic performances, which saw lots of our children produce personal bests!
The County final today concludes an exciting Y5/6 Sportshall season, where I have been delighted with how everyone has supported each other in both training and competitions! Thank you also to our fantastic parent helpers today, who supported the children so positively throughout.
Y3 Skipping Into Christmas!!
All of Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic Skipping festival today!
Everyone enjoyed learning a variety of individual, pairs and team skipping skills. Meanwhile, there was a wonderful backdrop of Christmas music playing to encourage everyone and to get us into the festive spirit.
Thank you to our fantastic parent helpers who supported the children by swinging ropes and bringing plenty of festive cheer!
Y5/6 District Gymnastics Finals 2025 – Team Silver Success!
Our Y5/6 Gymnastics A team came within a mere 0.05 points of becoming District Champions today; in an incredibly tight and high-quality competition at The Urban Factory. Ultimately, we claimed brilliant District team silver medals, while Hugo earned a wonderful individual bronze medal as we successfully featured on both podiums.
This was the first time we had developed a St. Bede’s Y5/6 Gymnastics team and despite some unfortunate injuries, we all believed our determined squad could really challenge for the District title.
In training, our gymnasts enthusiastically created imaginative routines that included a variety of skills, travels, leaps and spins. Today everyone showed great courage and composure to perform so well in front of the four judges. Personally, I watched on in awe as our children showcased their inspiring abilities- I was so proud of you all!
It was wonderful to see the team spirit among our children as they all supported each other throughout. As well as competing, all of our gymnasts enjoyed exploring a variety of fun activities at the brilliant Urban factory.
Thank you to our fantastic parent helper who encouraged our children during the event. Thank you also to the parents, who practised the routine with their children at home – they all did so well today!
Year 1 Multi Skills Festival at Temple Park
Year 1 had a fantastic morning at Temple Park, where they took part in a range of festive themed multi-skills activities. The children enjoyed trying out different challenges, including throwing, jumping and running events, all designed to help develop their coordination, teamwork and confidence.
Everyone looked wonderful in their Christmas attire, bringing lots of cheer and excitement to the festival.
Sportshall Athletics County Final 2026 Qualifiers & District Team Silver!!
The Sportshall Athletics team achieved a brilliant team silver in the District Finals today in an event containing 24 teams!
Consequently, we have qualified to represent South Tyneside in the County Finals on Friday 9th January – what an exciting start to the new year this promises to be! Our children will compete against the best schools from Newcastle, Sunderland, North Tyneside and Gateshead.
Our athletes have shown great dedication to train for the competition and everyone performed superbly at today’s event. There were many fantastic performances, which saw many of our children produce personal bests!

Year 5 Dodgeball Superstars!
This week, Year 5 participated in a dodgeball event at Temple Park. Several schools joined together to play dodgeball and have lots of fun!
During the course of the morning, sports leaders were on the lookout for pupils who demonstrated core sporting values. Two of our pupils were awarded certificates – one for passion and one for honesty.
The entire class showed amazing effort and were so supportive of one another. It was joyous to hear them cheering each other on and sharing words of encouragement. Well done, Year 5!
Golden Cross Country Presentation For Outstanding Runners!
Our talented Cross Country squad were proudly presented with their gold medals today, after recently becoming South Tyneside Team Champions 2025. Their record breaking score of 168 points meant that they finished 187 points ahead of the second placed team – an incredible achievement! Well done to everyone – we are very proud of you all!
Y3 Durham Prehistory Visit!
Our Y3 mini-archaeologists enjoyed an interesting Stone-Bronze Age day at the Museum of Archaeology in Durham! We learned about the chronology of Prehistory and analysed an exciting range of ancient artefacts. The children completed an exciting gallery trail and also considered what we could deduce from the bones of a skeleton. Y3 conducted themselves superbly throughout the visit and even took in some of the sites of a picturesque Durham. Thank you also to our great parent helpers!
