Y5/6 District Gymnastics Finals 2025 – Team Silver Success!

9th December 2025 By bmcvittie

Our Y5/6 Gymnastics A team came within a mere 0.05 points of becoming District Champions today; in an incredibly tight and high-quality competition at The Urban Factory. Ultimately, we claimed brilliant District team silver medals, while Hugo earned a wonderful individual bronze medal as we successfully featured on both podiums.

This was the first time we had developed a St. Bede’s Y5/6 Gymnastics team and despite some unfortunate injuries, we all believed our determined squad could really challenge for the District title.

In training, our gymnasts enthusiastically created imaginative routines that included a variety of skills, travels, leaps and spins.  Today everyone showed great courage and composure to perform so well in front of the four judges. Personally, I watched on in awe as our children showcased their inspiring abilities- I was so proud of you all!

It was wonderful to see the team spirit among our children as they all supported each other throughout. As well as competing, all of our gymnasts enjoyed exploring a variety of fun activities at the brilliant Urban factory.

Thank you to our fantastic parent helper who  encouraged our children during the event. Thank you also to the parents, who practised the routine with their children at home – they all did so well today!

24th October 2025 By lusher

This week, Year 5 participated in a dodgeball event at Temple Park. Several schools joined together to play dodgeball and have lots of fun!

During the course of the morning, sports leaders were on the lookout for pupils who demonstrated core sporting values. Two of our pupils were awarded certificates – one for passion and one for honesty.

The entire class showed amazing effort and were so supportive of one another. It was joyous to hear them cheering each other on and sharing words of encouragement. Well done, Year 5!

Y3 Durham Prehistory Visit!

29th September 2025 By bmcvittie

Our Y3 mini-archaeologists enjoyed an interesting Stone-Bronze Age day at the Museum of Archaeology in Durham! We learned about the chronology of Prehistory and analysed an exciting range of ancient artefacts. The children completed an exciting gallery trail and also considered what we could deduce from the bones of a skeleton. Y3 conducted themselves superbly throughout the visit and even took in some of the sites of a picturesque Durham. Thank you also to our great parent helpers!

District Team Cross Country Champions 2025!

26th September 2025 By bmcvittie

Wow – What. A. Team!!

Eight teams from St. Bede’s consisting of 41 children became South Tyneside Team Cross Country Champions today!

Firstly, it was wonderful to have so many boys and girls representing our school in a single event. Our children showed incredible energy to support their friends and amazing consistency of high-level performances from Year 3 right through to Year 6.

Our young athletes have shown great dedication to train for the competition and everyone strived for personal best performances on the day. We had 3 individual District Champions, multiple podium finishers and remarkably 5 different year group team champions; ultimately everyone contributed so much to our collective team.

There were many excellent ‘sporty schools’ at the event consisting of over 400 children, so our children should be very proud to be the overall top team on the day.

Personally I was so proud of how everyone relentlessly supported each other and the amazing parental support at Temple Park. When we genuinely support each other, it can take you a long way together.
