Year 5 Hoops 4 Health
Last week, Year 5 had the fantastic opportunity to work with some of the players from Newcastle Eagles. They took part in the wonderful Hoops 4 Health roadshow. The afternoon concentrated on health messages such as mental and social wellbeing, how to stay fit and look after the heart and lungs, healthy eating including portion size and a balanced diet. Plus, there was the opportunity to play some basketball. Year 5 worked very hard and had a brilliant afternoon. Here are some photos of what we got up to:
Platinum Sport & PE Award for St. Bede’s!
We are delighted to announce that we have retained our School Games Platinum Mark status. The School Games Committee has awarded St. Bede’s the accolade for “consistently high commitment to school sport and development of PE”.
Uniquely, we were the first South Tyneside school to achieve the Platinum status in 2018 and our dedication and commitment to wide participation in school sport has seen us maintain this prestigious status for the past 6 years! We are still one of only a small number of schools in the area who have ever reached Platinum, while we are by far the longest standing recipient of the award.
Our school provides children with a wide range of sports provision in both curriculum time and after school. This includes taking part in large numbers at inter-school competitions, by entering multiple teams so boys and girls of all abilities can be involved.
Meanwhile, this term we look forward to children in the Juniors, Infants and Early Years attending local sport festivals. We are determined to keep striving to improve opportunities for everyone.
Thank you to everyone who has supported PE and school sport at St. Bede’s. Sport has the ability to enhance pupil’s discipline, character, communication, resilience and team work skills, which provide the tools to success in all subject areas and future life.
Everyone at St. Bede’s should be proud of this award, as everyone has played their part. Lunch time supervisors keenly encourage activity, while parents keep their children moving outside of school and get them involved in local community clubs. But most importantly, this award is recognition for our fantastic children who seek to lead healthy lives and enthusiastically get involved in school sport.
Y1/2 Summer Sport & Well Being Club 2024!
Our Y1 & Y2 children were all amazing in our Summer Sport & Well Being Club this week! We took full advantage of the dry, sunny weather to enjoy a wide variety of activities around our school grounds.
The children embraced all of the activities with a great attitude and really enjoyed themselves with their friends, while learning new skills. If there are any spaces left in the Team GB team for the Paris Olympics, I’m certain our children would now be ready!
I’m sure the club will also help many of our children in their transition to the juniors in September; while it was a joy teaching our talented children. I hope you all have a great summer with your families, continue to enjoy keeping get active and of course enjoy watching the Olympics!
Sports Leaders Team 2024!
The St. Bede’s Sports Leaders Team have been amazing this year supporting our younger children to get involved in healthy exercise with their friends. They organise a rich, variety of activities for our children to enjoy during lunchtimes. Thank you to all of our Sports Leaders for doing such a selfless role to inspire others to keep active!
Top Baller Makes District Team!
I am delighted to share that one of our Y5 pupil’s has been selected to represent South Tyneside District Football team next season. He was initially nominated as an excellent footballer for the trials, with over 60 other elite boys from the borough. He went on to show a lot of skill, determination and maturity to negotiate multiple trials to make the final squad for the 2024-25 season. We look forward to following his progress next season, when he will play against the best footballers from the north east region – enjoy every moment knowing we are really proud of you!

In a highly talented squad, Ralph and Ellen were both fourth overall, narrowly missing out on a podium finish. Meanwhile, four of our team will still be elgible to compete in the same event next year. Congratulations to the whole squad!
County Y1/2 Gymnastics Finalists at RGS!
Our Y1/2 Gymnasts represented both South Tyneside and St. Bede’s today at the prestigious Royal Grammar School in Jesmond. They performed with confidence and composure, as they delivered excellent routines to the judges! While they didn’t medal on this occasion, they can be so proud of their fabulous performances!
Our team also had a great time enjoying a variety of fun gymnastics activities in a wonderful setting. Thank you to everyone for your efforts, I was so proud of you all today; I’m sure we’ll be back competing with the very best next year!
