Meet Our New School Council!

24th October 2025 By katiedixon

We are thrilled to introduce our brand-new School Council for this year!

Our School Council is made up of pupils from across the school who have been chosen by their classmates to help make our school an even better place. They will be working together to share ideas, plan fun events, and speak up for the views of all children.

Being part of the School Council is a very special role. It helps children learn about leadership, teamwork, and how to make positive changes in their school community.

We are so proud of everyone who put themselves forward and would like to say a big well done to our new councillors! We can’t wait to see all the brilliant things they’ll do this year.

Keep an eye on our website and newsletters for updates on their exciting projects!

School Council Elections – Democracy in Action!

20th October 2025 By katiedixon

Last week, our school was buzzing with excitement as pupils from across all year groups took part in our School Council Elections! It was a fantastic opportunity for children to experience the democratic process first-hand and have their voices heard.

On election day, the children cast their votes using a real ballot box, just like in official elections. They carefully marked their choices on ballot papers and posted them into the box, learning how voting works in a respectful and fair way.

Watch this space to find out who our newly elected members will be…

Children in Need Fundraiser

13th November 2024 By carolinekennedy

The Children in Need Fundraiser was a huge success!  The Mini Vinnies and School Councillors sold Pudsey pin badges, pens and wristbands.  They also sold raffle tickets which entered the children into a raffle for a Giant Pudsey bear and 2 smaller Pudseys (as runner-up prizes) as well as a yummy cake to share with their friends in class today.

Due to the generosity of our amazing St Bede’s families, we had enough cakes for all of the children to enjoy another cake on Children in Need Day on Friday.

The kindness of you all has been phenomenal!  Thanks to your fantastic generosity we raised £250.00 for Children in Need.

Switch Off Fortnight 2024

11th November 2024 By katiedixon

School Council Launches ‘Switch Off Fortnight’ Campaign

We are excited to share some fantastic news that our School Council is leading an inspiring initiative called “Switch Off Fortnight,” aimed at promoting energy conservation and environmental awareness throughout our school community.

What is “Switch Off Fortnight”?
“Switch Off Fortnight” is a campaign designed to encourage everyone at St Bede’s to be mindful
of their energy consumption. For two weeks, starting from Monday 11th November, we will focus
on switching off lights, computers, and other electronic devices when they’re not in use. This
small change can make a big difference in reducing our carbon footprint and helping the
environment.

Why Are We Doing This?
The School Council believes that everyone has a part to play in protecting our planet. By
reducing energy consumption, we can not only help the environment but also save on electricity
costs, which can be redirected towards other school needs. This campaign is a great
opportunity for students, staff, and the whole school community to come together for a common
cause.

School Safety Map – School Council Pupil Voice

7th February 2024 By katiedixon

The school council have worked extremely hard this week completing a school safety map activity. The children followed a map of the school and thought about how safe they felt in each area. They coloured an area green if they always felt safe, orange if they sometimes felt safe and red if they did not feel safe. We are looking forward to meeting up again after half term to discuss our findings and to work together to make our school the safest it can be.

School Council Meeting 13th November 2023

15th November 2023 By katiedixon

It was lovely to welcome our new school councillors to their first meeting of the year. They had a very important job to do of picking new books for the school library using the reward points we received from the Book Fair. The children thoroughly enjoyed browsing the Scholastic website and picked a range of books from Harry Potter to Peppa Pig at Christmas. I’m sure that all of the children in school will appreciate and enjoy a new exciting range of books to choose from at reading time.

School Council Elections

7th October 2022 By katiedixon

This week has been a very important week for the children at St. Bede’s. They have been nominating and electing who they would like to see on the School Council this year. The children came into the hall, made their vote on a ballot paper and posted it into a ballot box. The votes were counted, verified and the children elected were presented with their School Council badges this morning during House Assembly.

This opportuntity gave the children an excellent understanding of democracy.
