We had a wonderful visit from Father Bill from St Bede’s Church. He told us all about his job, the church and events that take place in church. We enjoyed asking him lots of questions.

As part of our Local Church topic in RE, we were fortunate to welcome Mrs Brown into school to talk about the role the laity plays in Church. It was very interesting – the children learned a lot about how we are all called to serve God in our own way, and the commitment and responsibility involved in people volunteering.

Year 1 have been learning about Christingles, a symbolic representation of Christ’s light. The children carefully followed the instructions on how to make them and worked in teams to create them.
With oranges representing the world, red ribbons symbolising the blood of Christ, sweets and dried fruits signifying God’s creations, and a candle as the light of Christ, the children gained a deeper understanding of the religious meaning behind the Christingle tradition.
We then went into the hall and had a small liturgy where we lit the candles on the Christingles and said some special prayers.

The children in Years 1 and 2 recently visited St. Bede’s Church to learn more about the sacrament of baptism, which is an aspect of the Religious Education curriculum.
The children were warmly welcomed by Father Bill, who provided an immersive experience as the children learned about the significance of baptism in the Christian faith, as well as offering insights into the history and meaning behind the sacrament.
The visit not only deepened the children’s understanding of baptism but also fostered a sense of connection and community within St. Bede’s Church.

Year 5 invited Father Bill into class this week to talk about the sacrament of marriage. We have been considering the big question “Is commitment important?” as part of our RE work.
We discussed the meaning of commitment and Father Bill explained the details of a marriage ceremony, including the promises made, the blessing of the rings and the nuptial blessing. We also discussed our favourite hymns and readings that might be used.
