On Friday, Marie delivered a workshop for our Year 6 children and their parents. They discussed the upcoming transitions and how we deal with worry. Marie gave us all some helpful strategies that we can adopt in and outside of school. Thank you Marie and thank you to all the parents that attended – we appreciate your continued support.
Reception Easter Liturgy
This morning the children performed a wonderful Liturgy for families to celebrate Easter. The children spoke, sang and danced so beautifully. As always, we are so proud of the children!
Reception trip to the Urban Factory
On Tuesday morning the children in Reception headed to the Urban Factory to take part in a Gymnastics Festival. The children had a great time balancing on beams, learning how to do forward rolls, climbing and moving around on a variety of apparatus.
SEND Survey
Please see information below regarding a SEND survey for parents of children with Autism.
Autism and Parental Blame Survey
Understanding families’ experience of parental blame when they approach health, education, and care services for support.
What this project is about
This research study seeks to understand how parents of autistic children experience parental blame when they approach health, education, and care services for support.
This survey is part of the wider Autism and Parental Blame research project, led by ADASS West Midlands in collaboration with the University of Birmingham and commissioned by NHS England (Midlands Region).
Why?
Working together with families we will identify common concerns and themes and make recommendations for changes to practice that will ensure families feel heard and understood when they look for help.
Take part in the survey – open until 01st May 2023

Quicksticks – 5 Star Success!
Today 5 squads consisting of 30 children from St. Bede’s enjoyed the South Tyneside Quicksticks tournament at Boldon School. It was great to see so many children take part in their first competitive event for St. Bede’s with so much enthusiasm!
All of the children dribbled and tackled their hearts out on a blustery and wet day. However, the weather didn’t dampen our spirits, as not just one but two of our teams finished top of their respective leagues on the day after playing some amazing hockey!
The Y3/4 children thoroughly deserved a great hockey day after the way they have keenly took part in practises over the winter months. Thank you also to the brilliant parent helpers who encouraged the children throughout the event.
Infant and Junior Music Festival 2023
Some of our infant and junior children took part in South Tyneside’s Music Festival at the Customs House this week. The infant children performed in the musical ‘Two by Two in a Floating Zoo’ and the junior children performed in ‘Vikings’. They acted, sang and danced brilliantly – we couldn’t be prouder of them!
Comic Relief 2023
Thank you to everyone for your kind donations to Comic Relief last Friday. We raised a fantastic £204.50! The children had a great time wearing red and taking part in various activities throughout the day.
Year 5 Little Inventors Competition
Year 5 have been invited to take part in an invention challenge by Little Inventors in partnership with South Tyneside Council. Pupils have been given a worksheet which they can fill in and return to school by Thursday 30th March. We will then submit all entries together. Please note this in an optional task and there is no pressure for the children to submit an entry. Please see the following information for more details.
Little Inventors in partnership with South Tyneside Council and Dogger Bank Wind Farm are delighted to launch the Powering the Future: South Tyneside and Beyond!
Dogger Bank Wind Farm is in process of becoming the world’s largest offshore wind farm. It will be capable of powering 6 million British homes. The project will generate a vast source of renewable energy, harnessing the power of wind to provide sustainable energy and reducing the use of fossil fuels.
The Year 5 challenge is to invent something that creates renewable energy by harnessing power from movement. This will help us reduce the use of fossil fuels and prevent climate change! The energy of motion is called kinetic energy. This movement could be dancing, running, shivering, swaying, and so much more!
How about a battery that is powered from the movement of a dance-off? A pair of shoes that you walk in for a bit to generate energy, then they turn into mini hoverboards? How about harnessing the energy from a live orchestra or from bouncing on a pogo stick! Time to get moving and shaking, thinking and making!

District Basketball Champions 2023!
Last night, our young basketballers showed amazing skill and character to become District Champions at the Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle.
St. Bede’s beat an excellent Cleadon side in a tense semi-final. We were forced to show our defensive resilience for long periods, but our team still had the quality to create and convert the only basket of the game.
The District final against Forest View was played in front of a huge crowd at half time in the Newcastle Eagles match. We got off to a flying start, as we sensationally scored two baskets in the opening minute! The players continued to play superbly throughout and added a third basket to claim the title with an impressive 6-0 win.
I couldn’t have been prouder of the children for how they showed their wonderful ability on a big stage. They were cheered on by brilliant family, staff and school community support in Newcastle on a special night.
The children will return to the Vertu Motors Arena later in the year, when we will represent South Tyneside in the Champion of Champions Regional event.
Year 4 DT – Making pasta sauce
Year 4 had a fantastic day on Wednesday – in groups, the children designed and made their own pasta sauce.
The children tasted their wonderful creations. The sauces were all very different but equally delicious! Most of the children had seconds and some even enjoyed thirds!!! We definitely have some budding chefs in the making!
