Schools’ Celebration to Welcome Bishop Robert Byrne
Tuesday March 26th 2019
Representatives from the 156 schools in the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle celebrated the installation of Bishop Robert Byrne as the fourteenth bishop of Hexham and Newcastle at the Cathedral Church of St. Mary in Newcastle.
Freya and Will from Y6 represented St. Bede’s South Shields. Freya had the special privilege of being one of the 12 pupils chosen to read at this very special service; she rose to the occasion and read beautifully. It was a wonderful occasion and one which the children and I will treasure and remember.
The bishop was presented with a book of welcome to which each school had contributed. Eva from Y6 designed the page of welcome for St. Bede’s School. Well done to Eva for her beautiful design.

County Final Quicksticks
Our Y4 Quicksticks team represented South Tyneside in the County Finals today. The children played with their usual determination and put in lots of fantastic performances, just missing out on a semi-final spot.
Well done to all of the players and Miss Moffett who has trained the children for the event.

Fab Footballers!
The school football team completed their league campaign with a 3-0 victory over St. Mary’s RC. The boys have enjoyed a very good season where they have finished Runners Up in the Coyne League. The St. Bede’s players have always played the game in the right spirit and have been a credit to their school.
The team have been superbly captained by Will Watson, who amazingly made his school football debut in Y2. Mahad Uzair has developed into an excellent goalkeeper, while Lucas Britton has grown in stature in each game in defence. Mason Williams and Ryley Wardale have been both versatile and effective in defence or in midfield. Jude Hill has been full of energy and possesses a cultured left foot, while Saul Connor has given the team plenty of quality up front. Meanwhile, Jack Murphy finishes the season as our top goal scorer, quite an achievement for the young, creative midfielder.
Thank you very much to the parents who have supported the boys in the League this season. Finally, thank you to the boys for your commitment and entertaining play throughout.
Exploring Sound
The young Scientists explored the science of sound today when they made homemade harmonicas. What a noisy lot they are!
Fundraising for Comic Relief
This year for Comic Relief the School Council decided that they wanted everyone to come to school wearing something red. The Council also sold Red Noses throughout the day and managed to raise a fantastic £253 for Comic Relief! Well done to all involved!
