It was wonderful to see our school community come together to support the children in a variety of races on sports day. Thank you to everyone who was there, as you made it a wonderful event on a fine summer’s day.
Dance Festival 2019
Last week Miss Moffett and Mrs Hill took two Dance teams to the South Tyneside Dance Festival held at the Customs House. Both teams were absolutely amazing and made both us, and St Bede’s very proud.
Well done Girls and Boys!
County Cricket & County Tennis Finals!
Amazingly we had two teams in two different sports competing in County Finals today! Our District Cricket Champions were playing at Mainsforth CC in Ferryhill, while the Y3 Tennis squad were at the Sunderland Tennis Centre.
Both teams had a fantastic time, supported their friends and gave a fantastic account of themselves. Indeed Miss Moffett and I were very proud of both teams, as they were very much the pride of South Tyneside – simultaneously at both Mainsforth and Sunderland.

Y3/4 & Y5/6 Athletics County Final!
I was extremely proud to have both the Y3/4 and Y5/6 Athletics teams in the County Finals today. They enjoyed a colourful and artistic opening ceremony with some inspirational words from Daniel Dixon- a rising star in British Triathlon.
The children proudly wore their orange South Tyneside t-shirts and put in lots of personal best performances in a high quality competition. With lots of Y3 and Y5 children involved, the future looks very bright!
Finally, it was wonderful to see how they were cheered on by lots of parents, who made the journey to Silksworth. Well done to everyone involved for making this a great event!
Y3/4 Monkton Athletics!
Thirty children from Y3/4 had a great time at the District Athletics Competition at Monkton Stadium. Everyone took part in a 400m run, long jump, howler throw and 50m sprint.
Despite the unseasonable conditions, our athletes put in some fantastic performances and should all be very proud of themselves. It was wonderful to see everyone encourage and cheer on their friends throughout the day. Well done Team St. Bede’s!
Y3 Orienteering!
Y3 had a wonderful time orienteering at South Marine Park. The children worked in teams using maps to navigate around the park to find various clues. They also had to complete a variety of surprise challenges, which involved a lot collaborative problem solving. Despite being the youngest year group involved, the children showed a lot of skills to negotiate a challenging course.
And like all organised Outdoor and Adventurous groups, the children were well prepared for a hard earned break, as they enjoyed their packed lunches at lunchtime!
Y3 Tennis Gold & Silver!
Our two Y3 Tennis teams managed to scoop not only gold, but also silver medals in the Y3 Tennis Challenge event at Westoe Tennis Club. The St. Bede’s A Team will go on to represent South Tyneside in the County Finals on Thursday 20th June at the Sunderland Tennis Centre. Congratulations to both teams on their exceptional performances!
District Cricket Champions 2019
Today our two cricket teams took part in the biggest competition in the region, with 40 teams involved. The B team went unbeaten all day, coming joint top of their group at a sunny South Shields Cricket Club.
The A team were also in top form, and in an exciting finale they managed a record run chase to become South Tyneside Champions. They will proudly go on to represent the borough in the County Finals in Durham.
The children were a credit to the school, as they displayed the true ‘spirit of cricket’ throughout.
May Procession
The Mini Vinnies made some lovely flowers for the May Procession at St Bede’s Church and they were joined at mass today by children making their First Holy Communion as well as children from St Bede’s Children’s Liturgy group.
They processed into church carrying their flowers and placed them around the feet of Mary in celebration of Our Lady.
