Meet our School Council
Meet our School Councillors who were voted for by the children.
Please visit the School Council page on our website to keep up to date with any ideas, photographs and developments. The Council have so many wonderful ideas to make our school the best place it can possibly be.
School Council Elections
This week has been a very important week for the children at St. Bede’s. They have been nominating and electing who they would like to see on the School Council this year. The children came into the hall, made their vote on a ballot paper and posted it into a ballot box. The votes were counted, verified and the children elected were presented with their School Council badges this morning during House Assembly.
This opportuntity gave the children an excellent understanding of democracy.
A Visit From the School Nurses
The school nurses came into reception this morning to talk about the importance of washing our hands. We listened to a lovely story, sang a song and talked about when and how to wash our hands properly.
The nurses also talked to the children about the importance of looking after our teeth by eating healthy food and brushing them twice a day.
Healthy Minds
We are pleased to inform you we have teamed up with The Healthy Minds Team, South Tyneside. They are an NHS service for children and young people who attend a school or college in South Tyneside and/or are registered with a local GP to improve mental health outcomes for children and young people.
They offer evidence-based treatments, including individual, group, and family work, for a variety of common mental health issues, these may include:
- Low Mood and Depression
- Worry and Anxiety
- Controlling Anger & Emotions
- Bereavement/Loss
- Bullying
- Self-Harming Behaviours
- Relationship & Family Difficulties
- Building Self Esteem
- Developing Resilience
They aim to help children and young people at the earliest possible stage, in order to support children, young people and families to develop skills and promote positive wellbeing and reduce the risk of further distress.
Our named Educational Mental Health Practitioner is Marie Holmes. Marie will be based in our school, working with Mrs Welsh, on a Friday.
We have planned assemblies to introduce the children to Marie so that she is a familiar face in school.
Year 1 and 2 will be taking part in a programme called We Eat Elephants. This is a story based approach to help children understand what they are feeling, why and how to deal with the effects.
Marie will be delivering the sessions, during PSHE, supported by Mrs Welsh.
If you would like any more information on the programme or think your child would benefit from a 1:1 programme of work with Marie, please contact Mrs Welsh directly in school.

Reception Visit Hall Hill Farm
Reception (and staff) had a brilliant day at Hall Hill Farm yesterday. They got to go on a very bumpy tractor ride, feed the animals, hold rabbits, guinea pigs and chicks and even bottle feed a lamb. Of course the highlight of the day was lunch, which we enjoyed together in the barn! The children were so beautifully behaved and loved every second of the day. It was such a lovely way to end our year together. Also, a big thank you to our lovely parent helpers.
A Jubilee Celebration in Reception
Reception have had such a special day today celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee! They came to school wearing red, white and blue, made flags, crowns and even took part in a corgi treasure hunt! This afternoon they sang a song from the 60’s in front of the whole school and enjoyed a picnic and a party. What a brilliant day we have had!
