Yesterday, Year 2 had an unforgettable day at West Boldon Lodge, diving into literacy and science in the beautiful autumn outdoors! Our day began with a Goldilocks and the Three Bears workshop, the perfect hook for our new writing unit, sparking creativity and storytelling. The children used the natural autumn treasures they collected to make their very own bear masks, bringing the beloved characters to life. They also crafted bear faces on the trees using clay, much like the bears from the story appeared in the illustrations. To make the experience complete, everyone gathered around to make porridge over an open fire – just like Goldilocks!
In the afternoon, our focus turned to science with a hands-on life cycle workshop. The children set off on a “treasure hunt,” searching for clues related to different stages of life cycles and collecting life cycle poems along the way. Working in teams, they pieced together the stages of various life cycles and proudly presented their findings to their classmates in a fun competition.
The day wrapped up with pond dipping – a thrilling adventure as the children discovered a variety of creatures in the water. This activity wasn’t just exciting but also educational, as they learned about the different needs animals have to survive.
Our Year 2 students came away with new knowledge, wonderful memories, and even a few muddy boots! Thank you to West Boldon Lodge for hosting such an enriching experience!
What a great start to the half term!
