Prayer and Liturgy

Prayer and liturgy in St Bede’s Catholic Primary School celebrates God’s presence in our lives. It is concerned with giving glory, honour, praise and thanks to God.  It is our loving response, in word and action, to God’s invitation to enter into a relationship, made possible through the work of Jesus Christ and the witness of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer & Liturgy Policy

How we celebrate the Liturgical Year

At St Bede’s Catholic Primary School, we celebrate the seasons of the liturgical year.  We explore aspects of it during RE lessons and we celebrate many of the events through collective worship.

During Advent and Lent we prepare our hearts for the season through penitential services led by our Parish priest, Father Bill.

In May we celebrate the Feast of St Bede.

Celebrating the Liturgical Year

Weekly Celebration of the Word (COTW)

A weekly Celebration of the Word (COTW) is led by Mrs Devine or Mr Charlton every Monday morning.

Daily Prayer & Liturgy

Short liturgies are held in class daily, using the Ten:Ten Collective worship resources.

Weekly Pupil-Led Celebrations of the Word

Weekly Celebrations of the Word (COTW) are also held in class on a Wednesday morning.  The celebrations are pupil-led and are planned in House groups of 4 – 6 children.

Each class has the Pray 2gether resource, liturgy planners and collective worship resources to help the children prepare, organise and lead COTW.  Children plan COTW based around the Church’s seasons, Come and See themes, Feast Days and significant dates/events.

Celebration of the Word with parents/carers

Parents/carers are invited into school to share in class Celebrations of the Word – this currently takes place annually.

Voluntary Worship

Children are provided with voluntary prayer opportunities by either adding prayers to prayer trees, offering prayer intentions (in class or through KS2 prayer area), or through creative prayer opportunities.
