Thirty St. Bede’s Y5/6 athletes had a wonderful time competing in the District Athletics Championships at Monkton Stadium. All of our teams performed superbly; while our A team finished a superb 2nd from the 42 teams taking part!

Alongside their silver medals, Fearne and Hugo will both also receive individual bronze medals. Ellen, Sophie and Harvey also managed brilliant top ten individual places.

All of our children have shown a great attitude in training in recent weeks, while everyone strived for personal best performances in the finals. Once again, the support throughout the squad for each other was so positive and up lifting- well done everyone!

The A team will now go on to represent South Tyneside in the County Finals on Friday 26th June at Monkton Stadium. They will compete against the best athletes from Newcastle, North Tyneside, Sunderland and Gateshead.

It was great to see so much support for St. Bede’s children from our school community inside the stadium, which really helped inspire our teams! Thank you especially to our parent helpers who guided our children around their four events.

Congratulations once again to our whole squad on a great day’s athletics and good luck to our A team in the County Finals!

Meanwhile, on a personal note I was particularly proud of how much the children have developed holistically as both athletes and people during their sporting journey; in what for many was their last competitive event for St. Bede’s. They all were a credit to themselves, their family and our school.
