Red Nose Day 2026

23rd March 2026 By katiedixon

We had a fantastic time celebrating Red Nose Day this year! The children came into school dressed in something red and took part in a variety of fun activities to mark the occasion. One of the highlights was our House Group quiz, where children worked together, shared their knowledge, and showed brilliant teamwork.

Thanks to the enthusiasm and generosity of our school community, we are delighted to announce that we raised a wonderful total of £120.60 This money will help support Comic Relief’s important work, making a real difference to people in need.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part, donated, and helped make the day so memorable!

Loneliness & Making Connections

14th January 2026 By carolinekennedy

This week in Mini Vinnies, we learned about loneliness and what it means to feel alone when we do not want to be. We talked about how people can sometimes feel lonely even when they are with others, and why it is important to notice these feelings and respond with kindness. This helped us understand how we can follow Jesus by showing compassion and care for everyone.

We thought about who might feel lonely in our school, parish and local community. We planned a coffee morning in our church hall to bring people together and to reach out a hand of friendship.

World Peace Day 2026

7th January 2026 By carolinekennedy

For World Peace Day 2026, the Mini Vinnies led a special Celebration of the Word for the whole school. We thought about what peace really means and how we can create peace in our own lives by being kind, forgiving and a positive example to others. We reflected on a story about a child living in conflict in El Salvador and how he used sport, music and dance to bring his community together in solidarity. This helped us live out our Mini Vinnies mission by working for justice and hope, just as Jesus teaches us.

We invited every child in the school to pray for peace each day during our Week of Peace and to create decorations for their classrooms to mark the event.

We also decorated doves with prayers, scripture and messages of peace, which we used to decorate our Creative Prayer Area.

Christmas Cards for Elderly Parishioners

11th December 2025 By carolinekennedy

This week in Mini Vinnies, we made special Christmas cards for elderly parishioners at St Bede’s Church. We talked about how some older people can feel lonely, especially at Christmas, and why it is important to reach out with kindness and love. By doing this, we followed Jesus’ example of caring for others and lived out the Mini Vinnies’ mission of service and compassion.

We painted Nativity silhouettes to remind everyone of the true meaning of Christmas. Our cards brought joy and comfort to the parishioners and helped us show care, solidarity and friendship within our community.

World Kindness Day 2025

24th November 2025 By carolinekennedy

World Kindness Day is a special day that reminds everyone to show caring actions and treat others with respect. It encourages us to spread kindness through small, thoughtful deeds that help make the world a happier place.

In Mini Vinnies, we learnt that kindness means showing care, respect, and thoughtfulness to others. We talked about how small actions – like helping someone, sharing, or using kind words – can make a big difference. We also discovered that being kind helps make our school and our world happier, safer, and better for everyone. Showing kindness to others links to our Catholic Social Teaching principle, solidarity (showing others that we care about them).

The Mini Vinnies set to work creating a kindness challenge game that they could share with their friends and families. Each child challenged their friends to complete an act of kindness. The children gave out special kindness stickers to anyone who completed an act of kindness on the day.

BBC Children in Need 2025

14th November 2025 By carolinekennedy

BBC Children in Need is a charity started by the BBC in 1980, which raises money to help make a difference to children who need some support. People across the country raise money for the charity every November.

BBC Children in Need support children who might:
• have a disability;
• have a life-changing illness;
• live in poverty;
• be separated from their family;
• care for someone in their family.

In Mini Vinnies, we talked about the things that we might take for granted that other children may not have. We discussed how helping those in need is an important part of who we are as Christians and that by doing this, we are following in the footsteps of Jesus.

We teamed up with children from Year 6 to bake lots of tasty baked goods to sell at our annual Bake Sale in aid of BBC Children in Need. We sold raffle tickets to our friends and gave away some great Pudsey-themed prizes. The children had a wonderful time at our Bake Sale and enjoyed lots of Pudsey activities throughout the day.

Together, we raised over £350 to support BBC Children in Need!

Mini Vinnies Prayers for Peace

10th November 2025 By carolinekennedy

November is a time of prayer and remembrance for our lost loved ones.
After attending our Remembrance Day assembly, our Mini Vinnies reflected on the impact of the two world wars and the conflicts happening right now all over the world. We discussed the importance of peace, forgiveness and reconciliation.

We remember all the soldiers we lost in World War I and World War II as a result of conflict. We talked about the power of prayer in communicating with God and forming a deeper relationship with Him. We wrote prayers asking God for help to bring peace and heal our broken world. Some of the children shared their prayers with the group and we added them to our Prayer & Reflection Area.

Key to Life Foodbank

7th November 2025 By carolinekennedy

Our Mini Vinnies have been learning about the good work of the Key Project in South Tyneside. The project is made up of a team of around 40 dedicated volunteers who give their time to help the poor and vulnerable in our local area. The project has recently seen a 310% increase in the number of referrals and are now feeding over 16,000 local people every year.

We set up a ‘Donation Station’ in our school reception and have appealed to our school community to donate tinned and dry food to help support local people. The children made informative posters to be displayed around our school to inspire people to give what they can to help the poor and vulnerable.
