Symmetry!

The children have been enjoying our Maths this week learning all about the properties of different 2D shapes, drawing their own shapes and finding lines of symmetry. They’ve been enjoying looking for the many 2D shapes they can see in the classroom and out on the yard too! Today the children have done a fantastic job of using folding techniques, mirrors and measuring to find lines of symmetry in lots of different shapes. Well done Year 2.

Y3- Our Fantastic New Juniors

Y3 have shown a lot of maturity to quickly settle into the juniors this half term. They have produced lots of outstanding work in all subject areas; Miss Moffett and I are extremely proud of their efforts and consistently good attitude.

Halloween Fun in Year 2

We all had a spooktacular Halloween Day in Year 2 today! The children’s costumes were absolutely FANTASTIC, thank you for making such an effort to create a wonderful visual scarefest for all! We’ve had games, music, costume parades, spooky stories and dancing as well as some scary maths and phonics work.

Have a lovely half term break with the children, we are looking forward to having them back in November already.

West Boldon Lodge

Year 6 enjoyed an actioned packed day at West Boldon Lodge. We took part in a number of activities including a mini-beast hunt and pond dipping. We also made our own classification keys.

Anglo Saxon Monks

To launch our new history topic, Year 5 welcomed “That History Bloke” to St. Bede’s. We spent the morning looking at Anglo Saxon artifacts and learning all about the lives of Anglo Saxon monks.

We pledged ourselves to the life of a monk using the Anglo Saxon alphabet, then finished the morning playing morrells (an Anglo Saxon game).

The children had a brilliant morning!

I have put together some work for you to complete over the next week. There are packs of work available from school, as well as online. The best place to access this is in the Year 1 Google Classroom. I will be keeping in touch with you daily on there. If you need any support logging onto Google Classroom or gaining access to your account, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Viking Visit September 2020

To launch our new history topic, Year 6 welcomed “That History Bloke” to St. Bede’s. We spent the morning looking at Viking artifacts and listening to the saga of Ragnar Lodbrok, a Viking King, and how he saved the fair maiden Thora from the Lingworm.

We handled replica Viking weapons, armour and shields, then finished the morning playing Tafl (a Viking game).

We learnt a lot in such a short space of time!

Literacy

The Alphabet
Please complete the following activities:

Watch the videos about capital letters on BBC Bitesize linked here.
Complete the ‘Rainbow-Letters worksheet in your pack. The children write inside the outlined letters, using a coloured pencil. Then they have another go, writing the letters with a different coloured pencil. Their lines will cross over each other inside the outlines, but this does not matter. The children keep writing the letters using a different coloured pencil each time, until each letter is filled with its own ‘rainbow’.
Extras:
‘Uppercase-and-Lowercase-Letters‘ worksheet – children circle the matching lowercase letter in each row.
‘Capital-Letters‘ worksheet – Children colour the shapes which have a capital letter and circle the capital letters in the text.
A game has been allocated on the Active Learn website called ‘The Alphabet’

Literacy

Peace at Last
Please complete the following activities for Literacy today.

Read the story ‘Peace-at-Last‘.
After you have read the story, look at the pictures on the Peace-at-Last-Comprehension. Your challenge is to cut out the six pictures and stick them, one beneath the other, in the correct order in your orange exercise book.
Once you have stuck them in, have a look at the pictures carefully. Can you write a sentence to go with the picture or a few words describing what Mr Bear can hear.

Alphabetical Order
Please complete the following activities for Literacy today.

Watch the videos about alphabetical order on BBC Bitesize, linked here.
Complete the ‘Alphabet caterpillar a-to-m and n-to-z‘ worksheet in your pack. Read the words on the leaf and copy them next to the correct letter on the caterpillar.
Extras:
Animal-Captions‘ worksheet – This work can be completed on the enlarged worksheet, or the pictures could be cut out and stuck into your orange exercise book. You will then have more space to write a caption in the book.
Dictation – Read the following sentences to your child for them to write in their orange exercise books. Remind them to check for capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.
He can jump off the step.
She ran up the cliff.
We must not sniff.
Spelling Test: Children can complete this week’s spelling test on the test page of their spelling booklet.

Junior Sport 2019-20

While traditional sports may have modified recently, there are still many, lovely moments from the early part of the academic year to look back on with pride. Our children participated in great numbers and achieved a lot. It has also been great to see children continuing to keep active at home, by doing all sorts of physical activities.
