Skipping Champions 2020!

14th March 2020 By spidrwebadmin

Congratulations to our fabulous Skipping team who became South Tyneside Catholic Schools Champions today! Our children excelled in individual, pairs and various team skipping activities, including a wonderfully choreographed Skip Dance!

The children have shown dedication in PE sessions, while Miss Moffett has worked incredibly hard teaching the children after school and at break times. The standard was high on the day, but our children rose to the challenge magnificently.

14th March 2020 By spidrwebadmin

Our children became Hoopstarz for Sport Relief and had great fun hula hooping and learning a variety of tricks! It was wonderful to see the whole school involved in healthy activity, with many teachers showing off their hula skills too! Thank you to everyone who kindly donated to Sport Relief as we raised £161 together.

World Book Day

6th March 2020 By spidrwebadmin

To celebrate World Book Day this year, the children were asked to bring in some clues for one of their favourite books. The rest of the class then had to guess the book they were describing.

There were lots of creative ideas, well done Year 1 for all your wonderful efforts!

Technology Tom Visit

3rd March 2020 By spidrwebadmin

As part of Year 1’s D.T. topic of Houses, we had a visit from Technology Tom. Tom showed us just how strong card and paper can be when it is folded or rolled. We even tried out these ideas by building some very tall structures.

We then set to work in groups creating our own structures, which would house the Three Little Pigs. We thought carefully about our designs to make sure they were wolf proof!

Here are some images from the day.

District Basketball Champions 2020!

9th February 2020 By spidrwebadmin

Our fantastic Basketball players became South Tyneside Champions at the Newcastle Eagles Community Arena on Friday night! Cheered on by family, friends and teachers, the St. Bede’s team clinched the title in front of a capacity crowd.

St. Bede’s beat a talented Stanhope 4-2 in the semi-final in an exciting end to end game. The final was played at half time in the Eagles v London Lions game; which meant that there were thousands watching on. In a tight final, St. Bede’s defence was to prove unbreachable; while a slick attack was finished off by Daniel Rutter to clinch victory in a close encounter against a very good Biddick Hall side.

Captain Ellen Knowles delightfully lifted the Hoops4health trophy, and will now get the opportunity to lead her team back to the Arena to contest the Northumberland, Tyne and Wear Cup later in the year.

Our whole squad trained with so much enthusiasm for the finals and it was wonderful to see their collective determination and skill displayed on such a big stage. Everyone from the St. Bede’s community who travelled to Newcastle were visibly proud of the team’s attitude and wonderful achievement. As a coach, I could not have been prouder!

Tag Rugby District Success!

5th February 2020 By spidrwebadmin

The Y5/6 Tag Rugby team competed in a seven team Champions League event at the District Finals. The St. Bede’s team played with flair and pace in attack, while showing resolute defence as they won team silver medals.

I was extremely proud of the children, who have really improved in recent training sessions and performed superbly. Everyone in the squad contributed so much to the team!

Rocket Mice

28th January 2020 By spidrwebadmin

The Scientists in Science Club tonight learnt about forces. The children each created a cone shape which they shaped into a mouse. They then placed their mouse on top of a plastic bottle.

The children found that when they squashed their plastic bottles, the air inside was pushed out through the top and the force created sent the rocket mice flying into the air.

The children had different sized bottles and discovered that the harder they bashed their bottle, the stronger the force of escaping air and the higher the mouse rocketed.

Today the children took part in a very important workshop all about how to cross the road safely. We learned some actions to help us ‘Stop, look, listen, think!’ and practiced crossing a road using traffic lights.

Hoop Stars!

17th January 2020 By spidrwebadmin

Fours teams of St. Bede’s Basketballers participated in the Hoops4Health tournament at Temple Park. All of our sides enjoyed the day, while two met in the semi-finals. One of our sides then went on to beat East Boldon in an exciting Play-Off Final. They will now play in the District Grand Final (Friday 7th February) at the Newcastle Eagles Community Arena.

We were all extremely proud of all the children who trained enthusiastically for the event, while it was great to see lots of brilliant parental support.
