A New Opportunity for Year 5: Mini Police at St Bede’s

We were excited to welcome Darren and Steven from Northumbria Police to our school last week to introduce the Mini Police scheme to our Year 5 pupils.

This fantastic initiative offers a fun and interactive volunteering opportunity for children aged 9–10. Through engaging activities and positive interaction with local police officers, pupils will learn about citizenship, community responsibility, and the role of the police in keeping us safe.

The scheme aims to:

  • Build trust and confidence in the police
  • Encourage community participation and problem solving
  • Promote self-esteem, teamwork, and responsibility
  • Deliver important messages in a positive and engaging way

Ten pupils will be selected to join the Mini Police team this year. If your child is interested, they need to write a short letter explaining why they would like to take part and what they hope to gain from the experience. We will spend some time working on this together in class so anything else completed at home is a bonus!

We’re looking forward to seeing our pupils grow as confident, responsible citizens through this exciting opportunity.
