Amazingly we had two teams in two different sports competing in County Finals today! Our District Cricket Champions were playing at Mainsforth CC in Ferryhill, while the Y3 Tennis squad were at the Sunderland Tennis Centre.
Both teams had a fantastic time, supported their friends and gave a fantastic account of themselves. Indeed Miss Moffett and I were very proud of both teams, as they were very much the pride of South Tyneside – simultaneously at both Mainsforth and Sunderland.
Our two Y3 Tennis teams managed to scoop not only gold, but also silver medals in the Y3 Tennis Challenge event at Westoe Tennis Club. The St. Bede’s A Team will go on to represent South Tyneside in the County Finals on Thursday 20th June at the Sunderland Tennis Centre. Congratulations to both teams on their exceptional performances!
The Y3 Tennis team represented South Tyneside in the County Finals at the Sunderland Tennis Centre. The children gave a great account of themselves and did our school and the Borough proud as we claimed fourth place. Well done to all of the players from Y3!
The Y3 Tennis squad consisting of two teams had a great time at the Westoe Tennis Festival. They enjoyed a variety of fun tennis challenges and played some singles matches.
Our two teams finished not only first, but also second after displaying their top tennis skills! Congratulations to both teams.
Lauren Barnes, Gracie Gillies, Katie Weedon, Renee Oliver-Binnie, Zia Mukhtar, Freddie Woodhouse, Lennox Heslop and Thomas Blair will now represent St. Bede’s and South Tyneside in the County Finals! The competition will take place at the Sunderland Tennis Centre, which is amazing venue.
The Y3 Tennis players had a great day on Friday, as they competed in the Y3 Tennis County Finals at the Sunderland Tennis Centre. The children were wonderful ambassadors for our school in the way in which they behaved and supported one another. Every player won at least one singles match at County level, while they all demonstrated a wide variety of tennis skills on their way to fifth place.
Well done to the Y3 children involved, I was very proud of you and thank you for your efforts in tennis this summer!
Anything Y3 can do… Y4 can also do!! The Y4 tennis players matched the achievement of Y3 by earning first and second place in their District tournament. The two teams played with a smile and a lot of determination as they each came out on top of their respective groups. This resulted in an all St. Bede’s Play Off, where lots of close games ensued before the A team prevailed. The A team will now represent South Tyneside in the County Finals at Silksworth, on Thursday 6th June.
Well done to all of the children involved and the numerous family members who cheered them on at Westoe Tennis Club.

The A team will now represent South Tyneside in the County Finals at the end of June at the Sunderland Tennis Centre. This Sunderland venue recently hosted an under 20 Tennis European Championships, such is the prestige and quality of the Centre.
The children served and volleyed their way to success in the tennis matches, while they also completed a number of fun tennis related challenges. Before the event, they trained with dedication and determination to improve as they all attended after school sessions. I was very proud to see their their commitment on the day of the event and to watch them working as a team on the different challenges.
It was great to see so many parents support the children at Westoe Tennis Club, which they all found particularly inspiring. Well done to everyone who was there, who contributed to a brilliant day! It was very much a case of, ‘Game, Set and Match to Year 3!’.
