District Cross Country Champions 2019

7th November 2019B McVittie

Congratulations to our talented and determined Cross Country runners who became District Team Champions today. There was lots of individual success; but the real highlight was how courageously all eight of our teams approached the challenging course in difficult weather conditions.

It was an absolutely amazing collective effort in a highly competitive event involving over 600 children. Everyone encouraged their friends throughout in wonderful displays of teamship, as we deservedly won the District Shield. Miss Moffett and I were incredibly proud of your attitude and all of your personal best performances on the day.

Thank you to our amazing runners and brilliant parents who cheered them on every step of the route!

District Cross Country

4th November 2018B McVittie

Fifty-three children from St. Bede’s, more than any other school took part in the District Cross Country competition at Temple Park. I was very proud of all of the children who gave it their best on the day.

There were many fantastic highlights, including the Y3 girls claiming a 1st (Natalia Lipski), 2nd ( Beau Gudgeon)  and 3rd (Olivia Camm) to win all the medals and team gold in their section. Y3 Henry Hogan claimed a brilliant individual bronze medal after an exciting finish.

The increasingly improving Layla Dowson ran a great race to finish 5th in the Y5 girls 1 mile race. Meanwhile, Darcey Tullis was imperious in the Y6 girl’s race – winning gold and setting a new course record! Amazingly, Darcey joins an elite group to have been District Cross Country Champion in Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6!

It was fantastic to watch the great camaraderie of the children at the event, while everyone looked to achieve personal bests. Once again, the children enjoyed amazing support from our fantastic parents.

Minors Cross Country Champions 2018!

20th October 2018B McVittie

Once again, the Bedeswell Park Cross Country event proved why it is one of my favourite events in the school calendar. The St. Bede’s community came together to support and encourage 43 of our children around the course.

We had the largest team taking part in the event, even more than famous Harrier clubs like Birtley, Alnwick and North Shields Poly. Delightfully, the wonderful team spirit and commitment of our team enabled us to win the South Tyneside Schools Team event for the very first time. Meanwhile, the children achieved fantastic individual results, as St. Bede’s claimed 11 out of a possible 18 individual medals, including 5 of the 6 gold!

Firstly, in the Y4 girls race the increasingly impressive Macy Annan (silver) and Ellen Knowles (bronze) medalled. The Y4 boys claimed a 1-2-3 with Ted Brown (Gold), Thomas Blair (Silver) and Will Walton (bronze) dominating. Y5 girls were led home by the imperious Layla Dowson (Gold) while Jack Murphy (Gold) and Ethan Scott (Silver) were in top form in the boy’s race. The Y6 event saw two of St. Bede’s best ever runners complete their final Bedeswell Park run for our school. Hayden Steven and Darcey Tullis both put in golden performances; while the determined Alex Lipski claimed a brilliant bronze.

Ultimately, it was just great to see so many people coming together and enjoying a school sporting event. Thank you so much to everyone who made the effort to attend on a Sunday morning; you all contributed to a brilliant occasion!

District Cross Country- Team Bronze – 2.11.17

2nd November 2017K McVittie

Sixty (60) Junior children consisting of eight teams took part in the annual District Cross Country Championships today. We stationed ourselves near the finishing area, so we could cheer on everyone from our school. It was also uplifting to see our children sportingly clap for all of the other runners taking part. The parental support was outstanding, especially from the official helpers, as they allowed us to enter by far and away the most children at the event.

Everyone put in determined performance in their races, with some exceptional individual and team performances. Year 3 got our team off to a wonderful start with the girls picking up team silver, while the boys achieved a brilliant team gold. Rose Blair (2nd) , Macy Annan (6th) were particularly high finishers in the girls race, while Thomas Blair (2nd), Freddie Woodhouse (5th), Will Walton (6th) and Ted Brown (8th) were in top form for the boys.

In other races, Jack Murphy (3rd), Hayden Steven (5th), Leroy Velasco Luckham (6th) also registered incredible individual performances in fields of up 75. Darcey Tullis was the winner of the Y5 girls race after an outstanding display of controlled, distance running; the third consecutive time she has been an individual champion! Meanwhile in Y6, many children completed their fourth and final Cross Country for the school; I have really appreciated your amazing efforts!

Overall St. Bede’s achieved bronze in the team event, which was just reward for everyone’s positive efforts and good sportsmanship displayed throughout. Thank you to everyone who supported this year’s Cross Country- you made it a wonderful afternoon.

Bedeswell Park- X Country 14.10.17

14th October 2017K McVittie

Once again, the Bedeswell Park Cross Country event proved why it is one of my favourite events in the school calendar! The St. Bede’s community came together to support and encourage 53 of our children around the course. There were so many lovely scenes of children and families having a great time at the event.

Meanwhile, there were many outstanding individual achievements and team successes for St. Bede’s. Pleasingly, we had the largest squad taking part on the day, even more than any of the Harrier’s squads!

Ultimately, it was just great to see so many people coming together and enjoying a sporting event. Thank you so much to everyone who made the effort to come to Bedeswell Park; you all contributed to a brilliant occasion!

District Cross Country 3.11.16

3rd November 2016K McVittie

St. Bede’s had 58 enthusiastic runners taking part in the District Cross Country Championships. This was by far the largest squad involved on the day! The conditions were wet and cold, but the atmosphere created by the supportive families and committed children helped all of our brave athletes complete a challenging course. After medalling in 7 of the 8 races ( 1 Gold, 5 Silver & 1 Bronze), we finished a fantastic second overall!

There were many wonderful highlights at the event, none more so than the Year 4 girls claiming a brilliant team Gold. During the presentation, it was wonderful to see and hear the cheers for every St. Bede’s individual or team, as their successes were announced. It is a sign of wonderful team spirit, when everyone is happy to celebrate each other’s successes.

In the first race of the day (Y3 girls), St. Bede’s Dominika Mis produced a scintillating run to claim fourth; she was closely followed  by Layla Dowson and Holly Gaunt. Jack Murphy (3rd) won a brilliant bronze medal, with Saul Connor (7th) and Ethan Scott (8th) helping to lead the Y3 boys to Team Silver to match the girls’ achievement.

Darcey Tullis retained her individual title of District Champion to claim Gold in the Y4 Girls race. She was closely followed by the rapidly improving Alex Connor, who ran a superb race to claim bronze. Rosie Ma (13th) and Eva Sleightholme (15th) recorded personal bests, as the Year 4 girls stormed to Team Gold. Will Watson produced an outstanding run to claim silver in a high class Year 4 race. Hayden Steven (11th), Jude Hill (18th) and Alex Lipski (20th)  were our next boys home from a 53 boy field, as the boys claimed silver.

The Y5 girls were imperiously led by the determined Mariz Hipos (8th) and Maddison Hart (9th). Cordilia Odile, Ava Elliott and Heidi Whitfield all finished quickly as the girls stormed to a team silver medal. Leroy Velasco-Luckham (7th), Joseph Wood (10th) and the continually improving Ben Blackwood were our first three boys to complete the gruelling 2 lap course. The Y5 boys claimed a well earned bronze.

The Y6 girls were in determined form with Francesca Williams (4th), Megan Tooley (7th) and Grace Knowles (13th) leading the girls to a silver medal. In the boys race Jake Waters was seeking a fourth consecutive individual title. He achieved a battling bronze in a 58 boy field; like a true champion he was the first to congratulate the boy who pipped him to the gold this time around. Nick Campbell was our next boy home in an impressive personal best time, while the determined Joshua Camm secured the Y6 boys team fifth spot.

Once again I was extremely proud of all our runners, after their determined efforts and outstanding performances on the day. Along with parents, the children warmly supported each other and helped inspire some wonderful sporting performances. Thank you to everyone who was there on the day, and I hope you enjoy the fantastic images recorded at the event!

(Finally, to top off a great sporting day, we were informed today that our Sportshall Athletics team have qualified for the County Finals to represent South Tyneside in January 2017.)

Bedeswell Park Medals/ Certificates Assembly 2016

18th October 2016K McVittie

I was very proud to present 82 certificates and 7 medals to our runners who took part in the Jarrow & Hebburn AC Cross Country event at Bedeswell Park. It was great to learn that we were Y4 Girls, Y5 Girls and Y6 Boys school team champions at the competition! Individually we also had 7 children who medalled in the first three for the schools races.

Alex Connor, Cordilia Odile and Jake Waters all achieved gold medals after outstanding first placed finishes. Mariz Hipos struck silver, while Darcey Tullis, Will Watson and Joseph Wood won brilliant bronzes.

Well done to everyone present on the day, either running or supporting. This was officially the biggest sporting event in our school history!

Record Number at ‘XCountry’ 15.10.16

15th October 2016K McVittie

Eighty Two (82!!) fantastic children, represented our school in the Jarrow & Hebburn AC Cross Country event at Bedeswell Park on Saturday morning. This was the biggest sporting squad our school has ever had, while it was the largest team by far involved on the day. It was wonderfully uplifting to see everyone cheering and supporting each other around the challenging course. Many children and families even stayed after their races, to happily cheer on their friends. While there were inspiring, individual goals achieved and team triumph’s on the day; the main success  was the phenomenal good spirit shown by everyone who attended and supported this event. Thank you to everyone who made a wet, damp Saturday morning, look like a summer’s day with their positivity and smiles!
