Our Sportshall Athletics team were in good form at the District event, where the children claimed Team silver medals. Everyone contributed to the team effort and had a great time at the competition. Amazingly, over half of the team were from Y4 and Y5, which made us even prouder of their performances!
I was extremely proud to have both the Y3/4 and Y5/6 Athletics teams in the County Finals today. They enjoyed a colourful and artistic opening ceremony with some inspirational words from Daniel Dixon- a rising star in British Triathlon.
The children proudly wore their orange South Tyneside t-shirts and put in lots of personal best performances in a high quality competition. With lots of Y3 and Y5 children involved, the future looks very bright!
Finally, it was wonderful to see how they were cheered on by lots of parents, who made the journey to Silksworth. Well done to everyone involved for making this a great event!
Thirty children from Y3/4 had a great time at the District Athletics Competition at Monkton Stadium. Everyone took part in a 400m run, long jump, howler throw and 50m sprint.
Despite the unseasonable conditions, our athletes put in some fantastic performances and should all be very proud of themselves. It was wonderful to see everyone encourage and cheer on their friends throughout the day. Well done Team St. Bede’s!
After achieving District success in November, St. Bede’s represented South Tyneside for the fourth consecutive year in the Sportshall Athletics County Finals today. Despite having a squad made up of Y4 and Y5’s, the children showed incredible character and produced many determined performances. They valiantly encouraged and cheered for each other, displaying wonderful togetherness throughout.
Miss Moffett and I were very proud of everyone’s contribution to the team. Thank you to the parents who supported our children at the event.
Finals Friday started with the County Sportshall Athletics in the morning. Our young athletes were representing South Tyneside against the very best in the area.
The children ran, jumped and threw their way to lots of fantastic performances on the day. One of the highlights were the boys winning the Obstacle Relay. Throughout the events it was great to see the children’s determination and their frequent encouragement for each other.
While the children didn’t medal, they can be extremely proud of their performances as they did our borough proud. Twelve of this youthful squad will be eligible to take part again next year too!
Well done to our 21 County Finalists and the parents who supported us during the competition.
The Sportshall Athletics team showed incredible agility, balance and co-ordination as they booked their place in the County Finals (14th January 9.30-12.00). The St. Bede’s children sprinted, jumped and threw their way to Team Silver after a brilliant collective performance.
The children have shown incredible dedication to practise after school on Fridays and they were rewarded with lots of personal best performances in the competition. I will be very proud to watch them represent South Tyneside in the County Finals, at the start of 2019.
The Y5/6 athletes were a credit to St. Bede’s and South Tyneside at Silksworth today in the County Finals. The children came fifth in the County after putting in some fantastic performances( over 350 teams entered this year).
During the Opening Ceremony, everyone enjoyed an inspirational speech from Olympian Montell Douglas, while everyone enjoyed the fun activity zones. Thank you to Miss Moffett for leading today’s event (and training the children) and the parents who supported the children in Sunderland!
The Y3/4 Athletics squad consisting of 3 teams had a fabulous day at Monkton Stadium in the District Athletics Championships. There were 48 teams involved in a fantastic event that saw our A team claim 3rd position (1253 points), just 11 points of gold. Meanwhile, our B team came an outstanding 4th, while the C team were as high as 13th which showed the brilliant level of performances that were on display by the young St. Bede’s athletes.
Well done to everyone participating and the fantastic parent helpers who helped make the day so enjoyable.
The Y5/6 Athletics team are heading to the County Final in Silksworth next Thursday after becoming South Tyneside Champions 2018! The St. Bede’s A team finished 77 points clear of the next best team, out of a record field of 59 teams!
We also had two other fantastic teams taking part at Monkton Stadium who finished 10th and 25th respectively. All of our teams were wonderful to watch as they strived to achieve personal best performances. Everyone encouraged each other and had a great time!
A special mention to Hayden Steven (8th), Joseph Wood (3rd) and Leroy Velasco-Luckham (2nd) who finished in the top ten boys out of 300. Meanwhile, Maddison Hart (10th), Cordilia Odile (7th) made the top ten, out of again 300. Amazingly, Darcey Tullis was the top performing girl at the event, and she is only in Y5!
Congratulations to the whole squad on a wonderful collective performance; I was extremely proud of you all!
Leroy Velasco-Luckham broke the long standing Junior County Triple Jump record yesterday when representing South Tyneside. The previous record of 5.88m, was absolutely smashed by our Y6 pupil who recorded a whopping 6.33m to enter the County record books! Leroy was named ‘Athlete of the Day’ for his achievement. I imagine his great leap will take some beating in the future- well done Leroy on an incredible performance!
